I completely agree with you. The Romulan commander in "Balance of Terror" was honorable, intelligent, the antithesis of the mustache twirling villain of the 1960s. Had he not died in this episode, he would have made a great foil for Kirk. We may only speculate about what might have been.I also have to go with the Romulan in Balance of Terror. He went toe-to-toe with Kirk with absolute military brilliance. He took the slightest inconsistency and predicted what it was in full detail, based on assuming his enemy was as tough as he was. Also, he went down with his ship like a real man.
I would go for Martok too, though he was a General.Martok![]()
