I also have to go with the Romulan in Balance of Terror. He went toe-to-toe with Kirk with absolute military brilliance. He took the slightest inconsistency and predicted what it was in full detail, based on assuming his enemy was as tough as he was. Also, he went down with his ship like a real man.

^Good points. Great foil for Kirk, I especially enjoyed how he seemed to respect Kirk as a worthy adversary and a sort of kindred fellow warrior.
Tomalak was cool too, but I like the Commander from Balance of Terror more, he was more...up-front and less arrogant and devious than Tomalak. Of course, being arrogant and devious has it's upsides too.

I completely agree with you. The Romulan commander in "Balance of Terror" was honorable, intelligent, the antithesis of the mustache twirling villain of the 1960s. Had he not died in this episode, he would have made a great foil for Kirk. We may only speculate about what might have been.

On the other hand, Mark Lenard gave us Sarek... quite a legacy in itself.

^ True, but as commanding officer of the Rotarran he could still be called Captain. In fact, that's what Worf called him when he made his traditional speech to the crew before taking over as XO.

Martok. It's good to see a well-rounded Klingon character. A lot of Klingon characters come across as two-dimensional thugs in my opinion.

I know this thread is kinda old. I went with Shran.

I also liked the female Romulan captain in TOS (can't recall her name, or even if she had one). A powerful female was a real rarity in that series!

Damon Tog of the Ferengi vessel Krayton (Menage a Troi). He was hysterical. If that little runt would've laid a hand on me I would've squashed him like a bug!

Quite old, more than one and a half years. In such cases, it's better to create a new thread because most people won't remember whether they already particpated in it and what they said. Their opinion might have changed, too.
