I don't understand why some chose Facebook. I mean, it's impossible to have serious discussions there. You post something like this thread and after one day it is drowned by everything else that comes in and simply forgotten.
I like this much better where it's structured.

As for those others who have left, I guess that they have moved on to other interests.

Well, Facebook is a logical choice because you can go to just one place for potentially any interest that you might have.
I mean during the brief time I spent there before they had got rid of me, I was a member of more than 10 (!) Star Trek Voyager groups, one StarGate group, four Star Wars groups, one Charles Dickens group, one Jane Austen group, two BLUE groups (English boyband), three or four gay groups, one Tom Paris group, one Cats group, one Bunnies Group, one Roses group and God knows how many other groups. So Facebook seems pretty understandable to me, also simply because due to your many interests you meet a larger number of people there.

As for people leaving, they probably do so for different reasons. Yes, I also know some people who have lost their interest in Star Trek Voyager after more than ten years (how is that even possible? ) but most of the time, people just don't go to such boards any more simply because their lives have changed. I mean I am spending pretty much time here these days because at the moment I'm practically almost out of work. But hopefully this'll change soonish and then I won't have so much time left to come here any more.

Let's face it, we've all named our favourite characters in random Trek shows about a million times (rough guess) both in online and offline conversations. The shows are old and there hasn't been any new TV series content for more than a decade.

It's a shame because I still like talking about TNG or the other shows but I honestly can't think of any "new" topics. :/ The main reason for me to talk about the shows is nostalgia now.

I suppose we'll see much more activity when Discovery is out. That won't all just happen on Facebook.

That's true. I think I've said everything that needs to be said and read everything that needs to be read when it comes to Tolkien and Doctor Who.

My favorite character is Captain Kathryn Janeway from s1 to s7, with her good points and her shortcomings.
I particularly liked her friendship with Tuvok but Janeway/Tuvok moments were little numerous to my taste.

Looks like I am the only one who voted for Neelix He was tied with 7 of 9 and Janeway in a three way in my mind...I think he was annoyingly cute and I was always disappointed when I didn't see him enough. Sort of like my little brother.

I love pretty much the entire cast of characters, but am going to go with Kes because she doesn't tend to get a lot of appreciation. I also love the concept behind her character and the way she played off of both Neelix and Tom.

The character that I hated by the end of the series:
The Doctor

At the beginning of the series I could get some decent entertainment from the comic relief. I imagine that from the beginning of the series the producers planned to say that he was sentient and give him a growth arc. However I have a problem with how they handled both of these.

Data was designated sentient but he was polite. What the Doctor was by the end was self centered, arrogant, whiny and ungrateful. And all that was presented as a five year old. Arrogance in the fictional world, not the real world though, can be kind of attractive when presented with style. Style would include self confidence (and I'm not gonna say what else because it could be taken the wrong way). But style doesn't mean coming across as a five year old and that's how he did to me.

I don't know whether they had so much emphasis on him being sentient because they found it interesting or fun to write or if it was a plan to push the sentient thing. I've noticed that some people on this board think that in real life programs could really become sentient. I'm of the firm belief that they never could.

So with the doctor becoming this self centered, arrogant, whiny, ungrateful five year old with the sentient thing being treated as it was, it was just too much for me. And so by the end of the series I had come to hate the doc.

Harry Kim will get no votes, but I think he was a pretty good component for the ensemble. He's just simple and likeable. He's a better Chekov or Sulu.

Tuvok was excellent. I thought his scenes with Janeway and Neelix were a real strength. Tim Russ was the best Vulcan since TOS.

Chakotay was great. Forget the Beltran/bored stuff. He was really likeable & respectable. I for one think he had chemistry with Seven. (It's became laughable when postproduction ALWAYS put flute music over his "spiritual moments"!)

Kes never should have gotten the boot. Her innocence was believable and refreshing. That voice!

Torres could be sometimes over the top with the Klingon temper- but I enjoyed the strong women on the show with Torres/Janeway/Seven.

Seven & The Doctor are among the best characters in Star Trek period. I voted for Seven.
