Who's the cooler Kid...

2 of 10

Captain

Having children on Starships is probably not a good idea, however, at times it can't be avoided. My question who is the cooler kid, Mazati, or Namomi. Since, Mazati was at least part Borg it gives her a bit of an advantage, she seems to ask questions beyond her age, yet she is still a little kid. Namomi on the other hand, has had more time on Voyager and spends time with Seven. I do like both of their characters, however, I think that Mazati is the cooler kid...

Resistance is Futile

I preferred Mezoti - she had a reason to be precocious with her superior intelligence. Naomi just wound me up :p

Then again, I'm not a major fan of a lot of child actors...

well, they were both very busy with official VOY business...

Naomi: working as the Captain's Assistant and devising tactical strategies

Mezoti: taking care of the Borg baby

winner? icheb

I think it would be easier to answer the question if they'd actually DONE something with Mezoti. And the twins, while we're at it. They started to give her a personality, but then ditched all three of them, refocusing everything on Icheb. It would have been nice to see Naomi interacting with these kids who are, biologically, at any rate, about her own age.

Mezoti, really, is almost a blank page.

yeah, and hadn't they visited mezoti's homeworld (norcadia prime) in "Tsunkatse" (the episode directly preceding "Collective") ??? It doesn't seem janeway was actively trying to return her, it seemed more like the poor girl was kidnapped. i mean, add another week or so to ur journey back to the AQ (it's not like it ever seemed janeway was in that big of a rush) but for goodness sakes, return the poor kid to her planet!

lol. Yesss, Icheb! I love icheb with undying, misguided devotion.

But out of Naomi and Mezoti, Mezoti wins. 'cus she was totally best friends with Icheb.

I agree, it was disappointing to see the three kids dropped off...but it was mostly for the sake of the plot. In the long run it's better to focus on as few characters as possible, unless you're able to effectively use alot of characters. Primetime TV doesn't allow for very much depth when it comes to more than a core group of people.

Most mediums/windows of display(so to speak) don't, actually. If you don't handle it right, it gets messy.

So, the kids were sacrificed for the greater good...

^ That's where I think Voyager dropped the ball most. I don't think it would've been beyond the realms to have included a larger supporting cast, like DS9.

Then again, I thought one of the biggest failings of the later seasons was the fact the show didn't even give decent focus to all of it's main cast... Lots of missed opportunities there.

Mezoti was a spunky kid -- and funny. ("Neelix! Continue with the story -- and don't leave anything out!") I liked her a lot.

But strictly speaking, Naomi was "cooler." She finessed pretty much everything while hardly making a ripple, where Mezoti was more confrontational.

Both styles get things done, but Naomi made it look effortless. She had Samantha's cool efficiency. Mezoti was more a firebrand.

I totally agree with both these statements. I love Voyager, but I wish they could've copied that aspect from DS9--being able to develop characters AND plot. Lots of characters very well-developed.

Shoot, we learned more about Leeta than Harry!

I preferred Mazati. Naomi ha a tendancy to get annoying in my opinion, although there were some annoying habits of Mazati as well. But she was still cooler.

Naomi just annoyed me constantly whenever she was on screen. I think that episode that is focused on her and the holodeck was one of the worst Star Trek episodes I've ever seen.

I liked Naomi. Especially as the series went on. Her early episodes were kind of annoying. Her interactions with Seven were usually pretty good.

Oh, yea. I thought Naomi and Seven had one of the coolest/most interesting relationships on Voyager.

Especially the one episode where the space monster is brainwashing voyager and convinces everyone they're going back to earth- but Naomi and Seven remain unaffected because neither of them consider earth to be their home. That was cool.

I always tell people that even tho DS9 had a much bigger total cast, you just felt like you knew them so much better!

I guess I liked Naomi the best.. I thought she was a cute kid. I really love Voyager.. but just hated when they brought the Borg kids in..esp Icheb.
