Whoopi Goldberg Talks Trek

The most recent episode of Star Talk radio (pop-science show hosted by Neil DeGrasse Tyson) featured an interview with Whoopi Goldberg, in which she reveals that she has a bit of a science geek in her. One segment of the interview focuses on her involvement with Star Trek, where she reveals a couple of amusing behind-the-scenes facts. She used to unintentionally annoy the sound engineers by making "Swsk" noises under her breath when she walked through a door on set, for instance.

Thanks for linking this, Smellincoffee. Great interview and I'm glad to now know about the Star Talk radio show. :)

Yeah, it's become a favorite of mine -- especially Tyson. He'll be heading a new version of Cosmos. I used to think if I ever went to NYC, the museums would be a priority, but I'd love to see the Hayden Planetarium now. There are a few other Trek-related episodes in the archives, including a two-part interview with Nichelle Nichols.

Goldberg did a very nice job narrating a movie on the lives of stars (the ones in space) that was in the Natural History Museum in NYC and the Academy of Science in SF.

I always liked her when she played Guinan in the series. I missed her when they made the jump to the features. true she was in Generations but that was never enough for me. I think she worked best when Guinan was subtle in her dealings with Picard, especially in "The Best of Both Worlds" which I recently saw again, like she knew what was going to happen to Picard in that story.

In retrospect, she sort of did. The events of 'Time's Arrow' had not happened yet - so she KNEW that Picard had to be around in an un-Borged state for that to happen.

^ You know - maybe that's why she took a posting on the Enterprise... For a few years, at least, that was probably the safest place in the universe.
