WHO WOULD YOU HAVE DIRECT FUTURE TREK FILMS?

JJ Abrams directed 2 Trek movies I loved back-to-back. He may be a little burned out on the nerdy space stuff after 2 Star Wars movies, though.

I was really curious what Quentin Tarantino would have done with Trek. His story (Old Kirk Prime, Kelvin Kirk and Picard in intertwining Pulp Fiction-ish stories) sounds kinda awesome to me, if those rumours were true.

I seem to recall that his plot was apparently inspired by Yesterday's Enterprise. It would be interesting if more details about it are ever revealed.

Not necessarily. Tarantino has been saying for years Yesterday's Enterprise should be adapted into a movie, and when he was working on his movie he did say it would be a remake of an episode, which many assumed meant he was going to do Yesterday's Enterprise. But there's no indication that he was doing that for the movie or what he was planning for the movie at all.

I'd have Bob direct the next Star Trek movie. No, not Bob Orci. Just Bob. You all know Bob. Okay, but who would I really have? :p

This might be an Unpopular Opinion but... I'd have the Wachowskis direct a Star Trek movie. If they could mix the style of The Matrix with the style of Jupiter Ascending and apply it Star Trek, I think you could get something pretty interesting.

Bob Butler, right? He already directed Gene Roddenberry's Strange New World before.

Still Quentin Tarantino. He could pull a retro missing 1980's Star Trek film, meshed with the cast JJ Abrams brought together and the talents of ILM for SFX with hopefully practical models just tweaked by CG.

Going for a big screen take on "Yesterday's Enterprise" sounds great. And it'd be about as much a remake as The Motion Picture is The Changeling spliced with The Immunity Syndrome. They say these things but take that premise and it goes in a different direction plotted around a different set of characters and timeframe.

Just start with the ingredients: a "present-day" Enterprise and an historic earlier ship with the same name. Two crews in conflict over how to resolve the situation. A whole new altered reality spun off because of what was supposed to happen but didn't. Show how disastrous and without a future the change has caused. And why the situation can't possibly remain the same. Epic consequences like everything resting on the shoulders of an unused subsidiary character like McCoy and by the final reel they sacrifice themselves to save the day. Only in Tarantino's hands it would an horrific gory death and given he's so likable, the audience would be glad it's undone so he, Spock & Kirk carry on their merry way with everything restored.
