Who Would You Date?

I'm not judging by our standards, I'm going by what Kes herself has told us which is, she hasn't hit puberty yet.

Secondly, if it's not pedophilia, then why is the most common question: Is Neelix a pedophile for dating Kes?

I don't think hitting puberty is any measurement for maturity. I know people that hit puberty years ago and are not mature.

Ocampans probably reach adulthood well before their bodies are ready to produce children. Kes is a mature woman that hasn't hit fertility yet. Much the same way human females taking oral birth control are mature adults that are not fertile.

I once made the case that Ocampas could easily have mature thinking processes at birth owing to a mental link with the mother. It’s just a matter of the body catching up with the mind.

That would be all fine and good if Kes didn't refer to herself as a "little girl" as well as behave as one.(Twisted & Warlord) So Kes sees herself as still a child.

Adult women taking birth control as far as I know have still gone through puberty.

Still when the question of is Neelix a pedophile comes up at least once a year, where are all these opinions then? The replies in those posts always seem to villianize Neelix instead.

However, as I said before, I didn't think folks here would take a joke so seriously.

Kes never referred to herself as a little girl. It was Tieran who did that when he was in control over Kes, not Kes herself.

And Kes never behaved like a little girl in "Twisted" or any other episodes. There were events where people did behave as small kids or spoiled brats but Kes was never involved in that.

As for Neelix, I don't consider him as some sort of pedophile and I don't think that he was that either. He had a crush on someone who was equivalent to an 18-25 years old.

As for his fondness for Greskrendtregk, I think he simply liked children (but not in that way) and maybe he was more interested in the mother (Samantha Wildman) than her daughter.

As for me, to be honest, I'm not that fond of being labeled as some sort of pedophile, even if it happens to be a joke.

Kes from "Warlord": "This little girl isn't going to allow you to take over her body." or some such line.

Nice to see you equate children to being spoiled brats but no, children are playful, innocent and unassuming. Exactly how lien played her in "Twisted".

I think Elfears captures exactly what Neelix was to Kes. If Neelix saw her as 18 and over, he wouldn't be talking down to her because he didn't talk down to anybody else.

Honestly, I don't like it when kids are undeservedly called spoiled brats but hey, what are you going to do? Such is life.

I wasn't referring to any kids when I wrote about characters behaving like spoiled brats.

I wrote: "There were events where people did behave as small kids or spoiled brats but Kes was never involved in that."

Kes's comment in "Warlord" (if it was correctly quoted, I have to check that episode) was most certainly referring to Tieran's opinion about her as "a little girl", not her own opinion about herself. What I remember from "Darkling", she didn't like to be treated as a child, something she told The Doctor.

Because by "Darkling" she'd be close to 4 years old and nearing her Elogium, so no she wouldn't be a little girl anymore.

Yes, your comment on spoiled brats was in referance to my comment of Kes behaving like a "child". However, I'm not going to nitpick that.

My God, is Kes being a little girl really that big a deal?

I don't see what the deal is here..we have a completely alien species that only lives 9 years iirc. They are not going to have exact equivalents to human development. It's perfectly likely that it's normal for their species to be mature and considered adults before they are able to reproduce. The ability to reproduce doesn't have to mark adulthood.

For the record, Kes never stated to Tieran in 'Warlord' anything resembling a word 'child' when describing herself or defending her position to him.
If anything, her demeanour was that of anything BUT a child when she conversed with him in his deep sleep and essentially told him the following: 'I'll be relentless and merciless, just, like, you.' - and she delivered that in quite a menacing tone of an adult, which is why Tierans facial expression at the end of that scene was that of fear.
He was essentially trying to convince himself he is dealing with a child, and yet, Kes never really came off as one.
Her entire behavior in front of the crew was actually indictive of a very calm, composed and intelligent individual.

She was in the process of learning while being on board initially, but was growing up 'behind the scenes' so to say.

Harry...cause he needs some instruction

Apart from that...no one.

You can't have Harry. He's MINE.

I'm sure we can come to some kind of arrangement

Dis must be a fight to de death. BRING FORT DE ANH WOON!

Speaking of which...

Devileyes asks:
It's hard to think of female Vulcans who weren't sexy.
Uh... T'Pau? ;-)

T'Pau in Enterprise was sexy.

Yeah, I think that effectively negates oldT'Pau's spooky unhotness.

LOLness Praetor!!!

Oh yeah young T'Pau was quite something.. I would date her for sure. We could, like, share a canteen in the caves together by phaser light.

who would you date? what about kristinna loken from 'the favourite son', better known as tx in terminator 3, and brunhilde in ring of the nibelungs? would have made an outstanding 7 of 9 as well.

Alas, I think I misspelled. I'm referring to the old lady in TOS episode "Amok Time". Then again, there's the old cleric in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock that reintergrated Spock and his Katra. (Years before James Cameron did the same in Avatar with the tree of souls.)

Eh? Gres was the father (Samantha's husband). I think you mean Naomi, right?

T'Pau in Enterprise was sexy.

Carol Decker, the lead singer of the band T'Pau, is also teh hotness.

Personally, Chakotay. I love his animal guides and his spirituality. In the beginning, he had a badboy image that I kinda thought was a turn-on..then he became somewhat peaceful and I liked that. I also think he's not bad to look at either.
Tom Paris comes in close second..but in the beginning, I thought he was a womanizer and a pig and it didn't sit well with me when he was on the holodeck kissing that stupid Ricky character. I wanted to punch that trick of light in the mouth! The things she said to Sandrine in the episode "The Cloud"..THE NERVE!
