Who was the person that came up with the theory that Season 3 was a homage to the Wizard of Oz?

I guess Osyraa couldn't stick around then, because she had to melt!

Too bad. I liked the character. I thought they could've done more with her.

I gathered it's a reverse "Those who leave Omelas" seeing as how society must conspire that a grown up never gets upset to keep thing chugging along.

Kurtzman has said that story was an inspiration for S3, yeah.

A friend once compared the landing party's journey to Voyager 6, at end of "Star Trek - The Motion Picture", to "The Wizard of Oz". With Spock, Decker and Kirk (as brains, heart and courage), Ilia as Dorothy, V'ger as Oz - and McCoy as Toto, snapping at everyone's heels.

Hmm. I dunno, I don't think The Wizard of Oz maps very well onto Star Trek: Into the Space Vagina Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The comparison with S3 is far too superficial. The Wizard of Oz would be something like one of the DSC characters being revealed as originating in the comparatively drab 2250s of “The Cage”, having been transported into the Discoverse while experimenting with the spore drive. Say it’s Stamets, and all his work was actually about getting back. Not even Culber knew, since Stamets would’ve arrived before they met. What happens when everyone finds out?

(Spoiler: DSC ends with Stamets going back, but we never find out if he made it.)
