Only if they’re involved in a cooking contest while being judged on their singing while living on a tropical island and bitching about being overweight. . . . . . and need a nanny from the UK to decorate their house while training their dog that has swapped places with the neighbours cat.

If it’s written well enough, I don’t see why not.

"Dancing with Alien Stars in a prison." There is a winning idea. ;)

Guy Pearce has some sci-fi prison movie coming out this year.

Remember when there was supposed to be a Green Arrow movie called Supermax coming out? David Goyer was to write and direct. Rather than taking the usual superhero origin route, this was to be about GA being framed for murder and sent to the titular Supermax prison, wherein he'd be held alongside all sorts of super-powered villains. Word was we'd see The Joker, Lex Luthor and other DC villains. I always thought that the copyright and continuity issues would prove too difficult (wouldn't Chris Nolan object to someone else showing The Joker?), much like they did for the proposed Justice League movie.

As for the original question, yeah, why not?

I'm not sure a Space Alien Prison could maintain a whole Series. There's been many episodes of Space Operas or movies set in prisons with Aliens, and that works fine, but, pushing the premise beyond a single episode/Movie/storyline seems like it could run out of juice, really quick.

Place the prison in a space station orbiting a dead world. The world has ruins and digs trying to unearth the secrets of the long dead civilization. The prison population is used as labor.

You have your prison gangs, human supremacists, alien gangs, etc. The pilot can show an uprising on the station and the warden deals with it by purging the air and opening the cell block to space.

The inevitable escape plot will be hatched. Some convicts will want to know what is on the world, and if it is valuable.

Think of it as the anti-Babylon 5.

What about the cartoon Superprison?

it's a cross between Oz and Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

Its murderrapewhimsy.

Oh.

Demolition man.

I can just imagine a young Sandra Bullock protesting how abominable murderrapewhimsy is.

I watch all 22 episodes of tracker last week which is about the same as hard Times on planet earth, a guard tracking down escaped prisoners, y'know the fugitive in reverse with aliens...

Space Precinct was awful.

I got though 5 seconds of the first episode before I shelfed it.

Also a prison filled with hundreds of dictators and other superbigshots would also be interesting. It would be fun to see what kind of hierarchy planetary rulers would come up amongst themselves.

In a prison with so many leaders, the real power is the 'muscle.' It would be fun to see someone realize that and try to organize the 'muscle.'

How bout if the whole planet is a prison? It could also be a large moon or orbital station, anything big enough to provide lots of space for storytelling. I'm really starting to like this idea now.
