Current Trek Shows
- Discovery
- Picard
- Lower Decks
- (other shows, in likely release order, as soon as they get a name)

Previous Trek Shows
- TOS/TAS
- TNG
- DS9
- Voyager
- Enterprise
- (Discovery, Picard, etc. can be added as soon as they stop production for good)

Future of Trek can probably remain here or go alongside GTD, since it covers all Trek future productions (like movies and so on), not just TV series.

The current format is broken with Discovery spanning 2 distinct eras.

I kinda' wish they would put DIS season 3 in an entirely different subforum than season 1 & 2 because of the time it takes place. Making it impossible for anyone to talk about the series as a whole.:guffaw:

In all seriousness - I never thought the current system was a good idea. I like seperating the Kelvin timeline from the rest, because it's a different continuity.

But apart from that, just go by production timeline? A Trek Forum should begin with TOS (not ENT), and end with the stuff that's currently on air. They're still free to put the years it takes place in next to the name of course!

I'm curious how the board will be laid out. Production eras? The current format is broken with Discovery spanning 2 distinct eras. Not that anyone asked, but I'd do...

Current Treks (with subforums for Disco, Picard and later Section 31, NicTrek, Lower Decks)

Kelvin universe

Berman-era Treks (TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT subforums)

Classic movies I-X

Original/Animated series

Seems right. Kurtzman Trek will soon have more shows than Berman Trek.

Every time I check in on TrekBBS now, I keep half-thinking the new forum will appear.

I'm saying that and I'm firmly on Team Disco. So I can only imagine how much anticipation there is right now for those who are super-excited about Picard. They have to be chomping at the bit for the new forum.

It probably will as soon they get to it.

I have no issue with how things are laid out, just add Picard in.

And for each new show when they get ready to air. Until then, have them in Future of Trek.

I'd argue that general principles of usability/UX would call for a Currently Airing and a Finished/Previous division, as you don't want new users, who are coming here for the first time, to have to sort through a long list. Ideally, new stuff goes at the top and scrolling is kept to a minimum. As things end, they move out of the spatial limelight, so to speak.

Organizing by stardate is fun, but not exactly welcoming to new folks.

That's my two cents.

I don't understand the thinking with Off Air & On Air?

What the devil difference does that make when we're still regularly talking about TOS & ENTERPRISE as they appear to constantly apply to current and past incidents in all the shows?

I don't see a need to indicate which Trek shows are currently being produced since anybody that comes HERE is probably already well aware of that fact.

I only added those categories as right now the Entertainment & Interests main category has the most subforums with 6. Having 10+ subforums under one big Star Trek Series category might be a bit much. My main point is to put the series in chronological order of the times when they started airing.

Series made before 2006
TOS / TAS
TNG
DS9
VOY
ENT

Newer series
DIS
PIC
Lower Decks
S31/Georgiou
Nickelodeon
Future of Trek

However the main categories are getting named exactly, doesn't matter to me. I just think it makes way more sense to put them in the order the shows started airing than in the order in which time they are set in. That might have worked well in the past, but not really anymore.

I disagree.
When the shows are/have been produced has never really been part of the logic for how they are listed on the Trek BBS.
(other than the natural flow of the way time goes in the Real World)

Apparently, In my mind, ... it's always been done by Canon Chronological order.
I see no reason to change it again that now.

(Edited to reflect another Senior Moment on my part)

That's not true. Organizing them by in-universe chronology just happened two or three years ago, I think it was. Prior to that, TOS was at the top of the list of shows, for years and years.

ETA: From September 2016, a QSF thread reacting to the change, which was apparently implemented when the Discovery forum was added:

I would agree with this. We should design it for new users, not ones who have been here for years like me. If it were up to me, TV & Media and Miscellaneous should be at the top because I use those forums most frequently. But for a new user coming in, they are likely a new fan having just seen the new series' and will want to jump into that first, as it is the most relevant content to them. Then, they branch out to discussions of past shows and the other board content as they are here longer. This doesn't apply to everyone of course (I myself joined to read the Miscellaneous forum specifically), but I think it applies to most, so ordering by production date makes the most sense.

Perhaps arrange the forums by TV production era rather than in-universe timeline. Roddenberry Trek (TOS TAS), Berman Trek (TNG DS9 VOY ENT), Kurtzman Trek (DSC PIC). This way there's a good home for the upcoming lower decks, nickelodeon, section 31 shows.
I was thinking that, but Roddenberry Trek takes up 2 and a bit seasons of TNG.

And this is why we still don’t have new forums. If regular folk can’t agree on the format, neither can the mods.
