Who, SJA, Torchwood SPOILERS from new DWM

As has been known for some time, 1/2 is the final story for Maria Jackson and her family, at least for the time being.
Aw, that's too bad. I've been impressed by Yasmin Paige's performance as Maria, it'll be a shame to see the character leave. One of the highlights of the show, IMO.

What, is Jack gonna stop by for a visit?

Yeah, I'll miss Maria and Alan (he wins father of the year award), too. I wonder why the decided to write her out so soon and yet kept Clyde?

i think its more to do with the actress leaving than them writing her out, I think its a shame they didnt kill her off in the Doctor Who finale.

Apparently Yasmin Paige was unable to do a full series because she needed to focus on her education (her GCSEs are this year).

Yes, because nothing says Doctor Who like a dead fourteen year old.

^ "She really needs to sort out her priorities." :D

Seriously, though, good for her keeping her education ahead of the acting stuff.

Pity, but at least it's for a good reason (as oppose to contract negotiations breaking down or some bullshit like that).

Indeed. :vulcan:

Adric is divorced from any personal or familial context- however old he is, he doesn't feel like a child in quite the way Maria does.

Anyway, keeping her alive allows for the possibility of the character's return in a third series- RTD hints that she and her family might return in the future.

 yeah ok fair point

that said how old was Adric meant to be?
Well, he was an alien, but by his species standards, he was a teenager (but a highly educated one...well, at least in mathematics).
not sure how him being a teenage, or good at maths make it any different, however to guess I would say he was 16 or 17, which is not quite as bad as killing 14 year old Maria Jackson.

but theres only so many seats in SaraJanes car, she cant fit Maria, Rani, Luke & Cylde in there, its not like the TARDIS where the Doctor can have all his ex companions meet up inside it.

Still future Maria episodes are something worth not killing her for, maybe she can return when she & Luke head off to university

 I'm sure Rani and her family would be moving back out if Maria returned full-time.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Maria return as a cameo in Enemy of the Bane or at some point in S3, honestly. A recurring or starring role in S3 would be fantastic, but that's probably not going to happen unless people don't take to Rani at all.

I don't think so- we have no way of knowing whether Rani is intended as a permanent or temporary replacement. Even if she's only going to be in S2, they're not going to sabotage the character by saying as much.
