Who, SJA, Torchwood SPOILERS from new DWM

Brendan Moody

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Doctor Who:
The Easter 2009 special will be the one RTD cowrites with Gareth Roberts; it features a new monster.

Not really a spoiler, but Catherine Tate mentions that if the structure of the next few years had allowed it, she'd have said yes to another year as Donna, adding "But could Donna come back? Well, in science-fiction, anything is possible."

SJA:
Story titles for this year:
1/2 - The Last Sontaran
3/4 - Day of the Clown
5/6 - Secrets of the Stars
7/8 - The Mark of the Berserker
9/10 - The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith
11/12 - Enemy of the Bane

As has been known for some time, 1/2 is the final story for Maria Jackson and her family, at least for the time being. Like the title suggests, 11/12 features the return of Samantha Bond as Mrs Wormwood.

Torchwood:
Already known, but episode one is written by RTD, episode three by James Moran, and episodes two, four, and five by John Fay. Freema Agyeman and Noel Clarke aren't listed in the main cast for the series.

Nice to see that RTD is back on Torchwood; "Everything Changes" is still one of my favorites. James Moran is so-so-- I was not a fan of "Sleeper", but "The Fires of Pompeii" was very good. John Fay sure is doing a lot for a new guy; is he Chibnall's putative replacement?

Cool news all around, although I'm also disappointed Mickey won't be on Torchwood. :(

One question...

We saw pictures of Nicholas Courtney a month or two ago. Do I remember correctly that he was on the same set as the Sontaran, thus meaning he appears in The Last Sontaran? If so, that's fantastic news!

Oh, another question: Do we know when Sarah Jane Adventures begins yet?

The Brig is definitely in a Sontaran story. However, I believe there are rumors that, as with the Slitheen last year, the Sontarans will make a "surprise" return in the finale alongside Mrs Wormwood; if so, that might be the one with the Brigadier. The filming in which he was involved seems a bit recent for it to be "The Last Sontaran."

And no, we don't have a specific return date for SJA yet, though a premiere around the same time as last year (late September) wouldn't be a bad bet.

Hm, that might be the case then. I'm still hoping he's in "The Last Sontaran" because I will only be able to see the first half of the season for the time being.

Yeah, I figured that was probably the case.

Is it possible Noel and/or Freema will be in Torchwood, but just as recurring or guest characters? Maybe they aren't in all five parts, or aren't listed in the opening titles for whatever reason.

That's certainly possible, although they're both pretty busy right now even for guest appearances.

It's also possible that they're not in the miniseries but will be joining Torchwood starting with series four, which is apparently already being planned for filming next year.

So are there any other actors names mentioned in the cast for Torchwood apart from the regulars?

I feel bad. I don't care for Martha or Mickey so I'm pleased that it looks like they won't be in TW. I see that lots of other folks were looking forward to their return though. :(

I hadn't heard that CT would have done another series of Who if it had worked out better. Shame. I really would have enjoyed more of her. (I guess what you lose on the swings you gain on the roundabouts, eh? :))

John Fay's involvement gets me interested; aside from writing one of the few decent episodes of the last season of Robin Hood, he wrote Mobile, a very complex and impressive conspiracy thriller on ITV last year (three episodes, each from the perspective of a different character, with overlapping timeframes - episode two starts a year before episode one and ends after its end; episode three backtracks still further and takes the story even further on, with the same events in part one played out from three different viewpoints over the entire run).

Grange Hill is currently in the 5pm Monday slot, and finishes its final season on 15th September, so the 22nd seems a safe bet...

Wow. That sounds intense. I'm certainly looking forward to Torchwood if he, RTD and Moran (Sleeper AND Pompeii? I love that man!) are writing. Hopefully this mini-series quality of writing will make up for its brevity.

Catherine Tate's words about sci-fi making anything possible for a Donna comeback make me think of Burn Gorman's about Owen's ability to return at some point. Both would be fantastic, frankly.

And no Martha or Mickey? Fine with me - I've wanted either new characters or none at all since s2 ended, and frankly I don't see why Martha would want to join Torchwood at the expense of her implausibly-high-up position in UNIT anyway other than to get her leg over.

SJA sounds good too. I wonder if the Doctor's cameo will turn out to be true...

I've heard about this often enough, but I still don't like it.

Maria? I can take or leave her. Her dad, though ... Rawr.:drool::drool::drool::drool: Pretty much the hottest man ever. They can get rid of her and daddy's ex, but he needs to stick around.

They could have Mickey join the group. I can see it now. Mickey Smith living across with Alan. They start as roommates. Then we'll see where it goes. ;)

So... basically it's a TV version of The Alexandria Quartet?
