Who should be the antagonist for season 2?

I'd guess the Vulcan logic extremists
This.

They already teased it halfway through season 1, and now Sarek is on Discovery on its way to Vulcan to kick off Season 2. At a guess, I would say the distress signal from the Enterprise has to do with somebody sabotaging their warp drive and trying to pin the blame on Spock.

*starts rummaging through unused concept art from prior Treks, trying to guess which one they'll use this time*
If we do see a Romulan ship, I'd bet good money they'll use probert's vertical warbird concept. That's a beastie who's time has come!

If done right, it holds a lot more potential than just 'war on terror'. the first, most topic thing that comes to mind is an allegory on isolationism. the 'Logic extremists' as stand ins for Brexiteers for example. Adding to that on top the 'faith vs. science' debate, which I think might be the extremists being very devout followers of the teachings of Surak, and that adds another allegorical layer...and I'm pretty sure there are quite a few things that could be added that I can't think right now.
I had a couple of thought last evening about how change, as a concept, is something that is inherently frightening if the outcome is unknown, because, while in itself neutral, change has the possibilty to be either a change for the better and for the worse.
This brought me back to the Vulcan Logic Extremists and Vulcan Society itself. Now Vulcans, because of their longevity, are not well suited to adapt to change at the same rate as humans are and the societal shift to being not only space explorers (which, according to Memory Alpha, was a step that took them 1500 years to regain after the Time of Awakening) but also finding themselves as part of a bigger structure, a Federation of cultural diverse species, for them is relatively new. So it is easy to assume that the adaptation process to that change might not be finished and setbacks of all sorts are to be expected, the VLE being one of those. This is a fascinating layer, at least to me, that hopefully might be explored and the values for allegorical stories that can be told on that layer alone are a prospect I would look forward to, if it turns out that the next season indeed does deal with the VLE as antagonists in the science vs. faith theme.
