An original, early makeup test gave her slanted eyebrows, but those - and eventually her unemotional traits - were passed onto Spock.

Majel Barrett worked out her own unofficial background for "Number One", and DC Fontana used some of this material to flesh out Number One in the novel "Vulcan's Glory". Essentially, it's generally accepted she's from an old Earth colony, which Fontana calls Ilyria. Her name actually is "Number One". (In The Rift, Pike states her name to be unpronouncable.)

I thought those photos of were when Majel volunteered to test the Orion Slave Girl make-up, not that it was ever intended to be used for "Number One".
