Yep, the Commie Lounge was the end of my frequent patronage to any lounge from that point onward. I visit the AL once in a while, but nowhere near what I did when I was a Commie.
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't come close to touching any records. I'll be surprised if I can still recognize half of the mods here when I make Admiral.
So what made Commie so special?

The Commie lounge seems to be the most fun for a lot people. I think it's because it's the first lounge where the post count requirement to move out is high enough that people are in that lounge for quite a long time.
AntonyF's new system of using time registered for moving between lounges means that people are spending longer in the lower lounges, so I think this'll be changing and people will remember the Red Shirt lounge with fondness

Yeah. I think it's also that once you have made enough posts to be a Commie, it means you've been here long enough to feel like a part of the community. The lower ranks still have a bit of "newbiness" to them. It's like when you finally feel comfortable at a job. You don't feel like a rookie anymore and are okay doing your thing, but you also haven't been there so long that you have extra responsibility. It's just fun.
God i remember when i first started posting back in 03 and i would see people with captain's rank and above and i never thought i'd ever make it. And now here i am, a fleet admiral ...
And at least 0.05% of those posts had content, too!

Huntingdon was a great bloke to post with in those days - lots of fun. Pity many of the folks from Commodore's Lounge back in the first half of the year of 2002 are very quiet.

It took me about 1.5 years here to become a commie and in real life that's about how long it takes me to warm up to new people. So I guess I'm agreeing with you that this rank is around the time when you become comfortable with TBBS and the people here.
I think what made the Commie lounge so much fun was that most of my friends made it to that lounge at around the same time. But once the post count went high enough, I started to pull ahead and I suspect I'm now 2 lounges ahead of most of them.
I was a Commie (and had been for some time) in December of 2002, when we had the Big Christmas Board Crash of 2002 and we all lost a ton of posts. I think that I was one person who was actually kind of okay with losing about 900 posts, IIRC, because it meant I could stay in the Commies lounge longer (I was just on the verge of being promoted when the board crash occurred).
But then, in January of 2003 I became a mod, and it no longer mattered.
