Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the 90s?

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

"Captain Zoom From Outer Space" was actually quite enjoyable and not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Clearly, you've forgotten BLACK SCORPION or MUTANT X. :)

CLEOPATRA's credits alone were sillier and more fun than most shows. And how about that wacky theme song?

CAPTAIN ZOOM was indeed good, though.

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

The four shows I watched regularly were Hercules, Xena, Cleopatra 2525 and Jack of All Trades. I considered them all silly fun, and frankly I miss having that mix of scifi and fantasy in a block of programming.

"Knight Rider 2010" was fun. I enjoyed it a lot and agree with Christopher that it managed to do something with the concept that was different. It's one of the films I break out and watch every now and then, though I wish they'd put it on DVD so I can stop worrying about my VHS copy dying on me. I did burn it to a DVD as a back up, but it's not the greatest quality.

And a bit more on that film, it was originally conceived as a much more direct sequel, where every state had a Knight Rider "unit" assigned to it and FLAG had become a much larger institution than it was in the original series. You can read the super early draft here: http://www.fortunecity.com/tatooine/phlebas/339/id60.htm

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

^^ Nope. Even Stevie Wonder and Helen Keller could see how bad BS was...:)

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

Ah...late 90s syndication. Most of it was so bad, but that is what made it so good.

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

Could SyFy pick up any of these as a Saturday night movie??

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

I was a big fan of Hercules and Xena, but I never really watched the rest. I saw a few episodes of Jack of All Trades and Cleopatra 2525, but didn't really care for either of them.

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

^ I remember that show. It was on, I think, NBC and it co-starred Jacko -- the Energizer commercial guy.

Yup, and they drove an 18-wheeler that featured a cab that could separate and fly around as a helicopter.

It was the 1980s, of course they had to have a cool vehicle predominantly featured.

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

I used to watch Native Son and wonder how much that had to pay for the rights to remake Kung Fu.

Well it was a Glen Larson series and it starred Sam Jones, Jane Badler and even Tim Russ.

Agreed. It's kind of a shame they don't make those kinds of shows anymore.

Even if you weren't a regular viewer, they were always good for a laugh when you stumbled across one.

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

Yeah. I miss the cheesey vibes of some of those old 1990s syndicated shows. Although, I sometimes get a similar feel when I watch some current USA shows like Burn Notice & Royal Pains (both of which are far more watchable than self-important network crap like Heroes & Lost).

I've got you all beat. Night Man. I didn't watch it much but I would often catch the first few minutes after a late night episode of Earth: Final Conflict before the sleep timer kicked in. Just the opening title sequence was laughably bad, where the doctor explains to the main character that, due to some accident, his brain can now pick up telepathic frequencies like a radio.
"But Doc, I'm only hearing bad stuff."
"Exactly, Michael. You're tuned to the frequency... of evil.":guffaw:

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

Oh, gods, Night Man. That was awful. They really overloaded the character with superpowers. He had built-in superpowers like the psychic stuff, he had a supersuit with more powers than Iron Man's armor, and he even had a hologram projector to give himself an alibi while he was off superheroing. Come on, guys, pick a theme! Don't just drag every superpower out of the bargain bin and stick it onto the same character! He was too powerful to be interesting.

That, and it was stupid.

Though even Night Man was more watchable than Black Scorpion. Ugh, I don't think I ever got through more than ten minutes of that.

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

I watched all these shows and movies when they first came out but only Hercules and later Xena really kept my attention, though I did try to watch the rest, most of them just didn't last for me to catch up with them later on.

I will go to my grave insisting that "Cleopatra 2525" was unjustly cut down in its prime.
Had it succeeded we might never have had Gina Torres in Firefly.

Re: Who remembers Universal's "Action Pack" line of TV shows from the

I used to watch Hercules and Xena sporadically, but the best part of "Action Pack" was when Jack Of All Trades and Cleopatra 2525 were Back-2-Back. JOAT was a classic hero romp in the tradition of Scarlet Pimpernel and Zorro, starred Bruce Campbell and had one of the greatest theme songs of all time. C2525 was just off-the-wall batshit crazy and starred Gina Torres. It was a great hour of television. :D

CLEOPATRA's credits alone were sillier and more fun than most shows. And how about that wacky theme song?
It was based on a cool old song from the 60s.

NIGHTMAN! Haha...I loved that show. Yeah, it was bad and cornball, but it had it's moments. It got a better the second season when it was re-tooled, nearly half the cast got shit-canned (for production reasons), and they put in a loose story arc and gave NightMan an arch villain.
