Who no longer cares? (Raise your hand)

^ "all the fan frenzy'....?

Where is this "frenzy"?

Nearly everyone I know expects Trek 11 to tank so bad it will make "Star Trek: Nemsamess" look like a blockbuster.

It will be this other new thing.

Which is the reason I'm looking forward to it. The original movies ran their course. Do I think they could've made more TOS TOS movies after TUC? Yes, but the window for that passed.

TNG worked better as a TV series, only one out of the four movies really clicked, not a good ratio; and on top of that, the last one tanked spectacularly when it didn't measure up to the second Lord of the Rings, second Harry Potter, and (to a lesser extent) Die Another Day. The window for continuing this part of the movie series passed too.

The result is I think JJ Abrams' new movie is moving forward because the previous cast and character options for further Star Trek movies dried up.

Saying Star Trek should've picked up after Star Trek: Nemesis is like saying Batman should've continued in the direction of Batman & Robin instead of doing Batman Begins.

Star Trek: Nemesis = Batman & Robin
Star Trek (2008) = Batman Begins

^I put this new Star Trek film in the vein of Batman Begins and Casino Royale. I just hope it's equally as entertaining as those two films.

The movie's like a freaking year away. The studio is only just beginning the stage of letting people know it exists. You'll know when they want you to care about it, because you begin caring about it.

First define everyone. Your personal friends? Bad yardstick to judge with. People here on this bbs - err its only a vocal minority. More over their certainty concerning this movies failure is based on what... that it upsets Trekkies?

The more I hear a particular circle on the bbs start screaming how horrible this movie is going to be (insert "canon" "prequel" or whatever else), the surer I am that it will be the best yet since it tells me their comfort zone is being challenged about the nature of Star Trek.

Its exclusivity is being blown and I'm getting the vibe they don't like that idea.

you need to hang out with nicer kids.

I've seen lots of people consistantly say they're looking forward to it, and a few say they've been indifferent or opposed from the beginning.

I'm curious: has anyone's opinion changed? And if so, based on what?

Since the initial announcement that the film would be a TOS story with recast Kirk, Spock, etc, we're learned some details: Nimoy will be in it, Shatner won't, various parts have been cast, the villain will be a Romulan, and now we know what the ship will look like. Have any of these details caused anyone to change their initial opinion, whether for or against?

I'm just curious.

All I know is that my roommates, who DON'T LIKE STAR TREK, are actually interested in seeing this movie because of who is involved in its production.

With all the fan frenzy, with all the slowly-released hype . . . I more and more feel that ST XI has absolutely nothing to to with my own Star Trek, and my own affection for it.

Instead it is this strange new thing, somewhat related, and I wish it well.

And I could not care less.

I do care about the movie, and especially for this reason. I want new Trek - emphasis on "new" - and not some poor knock-off that makes both the original and the new Star Trek look bad like ENT.

Agreed... except for... 'Enterprise' wasn't actually bad only quite unimaginative and thus a bit boring until Season 3 and 4.

I raise my hand and vote that I no longer care of whiners!
This movie has been intended from DAY ONE to casual viewers, average joes. If Trekkies don't like the end product, then so be it, it's expendable.
You know, I spent years dealing with canon in literature/poetry and it wasn't fun. I couldn't care less about canon in Trek. Sure, I am anal enough to notice things, but WHO FUCKING CARES?
Seriously, wfc?

I am fairly excited about it. It is cock full of potential, and feels like the best shot this franchise has had in years.

The only thing that makes me not care (or more appropriately, "burn out") is watching people incessantly pick every little detail to death here at the BBS. But that has next to nothing to do with the movie we will actually see in December. (Plus, it's high comedy.)

Quoted for truth, seconded and put forward with gusto.
Get a life goddamnit, it's a friggin movie! ;)

I care alot actually...the franchise was practically dead in the water..its now going to be revitalized with a new vision and new fans yet be close to what we loved about the old vision. If it stayed the way it was , we would have nothing more for a long time.

G*d damnit! It's STAR TREK! That's all it needs to be.
Tell a good story and it doesn't matter what time period, what ship, just be STAR TREK (the Trek Universe).

What happened to Star Trek fans (Trekkers/Trekkies)? What made them (us) break into factions like we see here? Maybe Gene was wrong... there is no hope for the Earth. If we, as Trek fans can't along, how is the whole world supposed to?
