Who Knew It Was This Easy?

maybe he meant us retail workers that get only 10hrs a week because they hire 20 people to avoid benefits? I doubt it. I'm tired of this Rep approach every electoral year is that the only thing wrong with America is we have too much imaginary time on our hands.

The irony is, if he keeps making Romneyisms like these, he'll be without a steady job for quite some time... :rommie:

Take it from the (more than once tested to be the) happiest people on Earth, 37 Hours per week is plenty! (weirdly, however, it turns out that it means men work 39.5 hours and women work 35.2 - probably due to ancient family structures though)

Of course, to reach this peak of happiness you also need universal health care and the difference in income between the rich and the poor to be minimal!

Actually ideally people should work about 3 hours per day.

However infrastructure costs such as having large offices, and time wasted in transit it kinda makes sense to work for more.

However productivity takes a nose dive after one works for more than 3 hours. (granted people usually suck in their first few hours of their work day because they don't get enough sleep/rest)

Regardless the standard work week is absolute bullshit.

However it really is the fault of people, companies would love to work people less, however there are a bunch of government incentives to give "full time hours".

Also people always want to work more, inflating the cost of living, forcing the rest of the population to work even more. The irony of liberals is that they cannot accept that we live in a closed system. Personal freedom has a huge effect on those around you, and the rich are the smallest portion of this actual number.

Anyways wage labor is fast becoming a thing of the past.

I"d expect seasonal work to become much more common, as people move to live closer to work during the on season and maintain serperate slow season homes.

Whaaat? I can barely afford an apartment, much less a work home.

Your work apartment would likely end up being a rented one room apartment.

Also you dont really live in a major city. Its likely the big dozen or so metros are gonna outgrow the smaller places in the future.

This is one of the most bizarre things I have ever read.

Congratulations?

Why aside from the last bit this stuff is pretty much common knowledge.

The seasonal thing is based on the prediction that automation will change things quite a bit.

You claimed that people working 8+ hours a day is the fault of workers, and that companies would employ people for fewer hours if not for the government incentivizing full-time employment.

In point of fact, the US government doesn't incentivize full-time employment. Quite the opposite, considering all the benefits that kick in once someone crosses the full-time threshold.

And most people aren't working all day for fun, they're doing it so they can have food and a place to live.

Basically, you blamed workers for wage slavery, which is a pretty nasty thing to do.

Dammit, the Jetsons predicted that, in the 21st century, the average workweek would be 8 hours...pushing buttons..

And the flying cars...

Now this "Jeb" person wants us to go back to Debtor's prisons, work houses,
child labor and company stores...

It's a far cry from what we were taught the 21st century would be.. more like the 19th century..

It wasn't just the Jetsons. I believe that was a common view in the 50s/60s of what the future would be like if the world embraced mass consumerism on the scale that we know today.

In reality, all I see has been achieved is slowing the decline of capitalism in the west - which was starting to fail at the time ...for similar reasons that it seems to be starting to fail again now. (I'm trying to word this in a way that doesn't sound too anti capitalist, but I'm struggling. I mean I am sort of anti-capitalist, but that really isn't the point I was trying to make).

In France you aren't allowed work more than 35 hours per week. France is one of the more productive EU countries with a good standard of living.

I think 35 hours is what calculations of overtime are based on, not a legal limit. According to This site it seems the upper limit is more like 44-48 hours. Which sounds more sensible.

(maybe actual french people in the room can advise)

As soon as he turns in a timecard to me showing more than 2000 hrs/year worked for an employer or customer he can speak on the matter.

'till then he's just another f'n chickenhawk.
