Who is your favourite Enterprise character?

Actually scratch Daniels. This guy is bad at his job. Also he and his pals are shit at time travel if they can't tell that moving one bloke through time isn't going to fuck up the whole future. Was there some nepotism involved in getting Daniels a job as a time traveller? I would rather put my stock in Silik, the guy saved the Enterprise after all.

I told John about the poll, and that Phlox was voted our favorite, just ahead of T'Pol and Porthos. I asked him for a response, and as usual, he does not disappoint:

“It doesn’t come as any surprise to me that the three most flatulent actors on Enterprise were voted faves in your recent fan run poll! How you all intuited that we three were by far and away the gassiest crew members… well, it’s nothing short of magical, supernatural!

Perhaps it’s because none of the three of us are Homosapiens - perhaps our individual physiologies just lend themselves to the easy and frequent passing of gas … Or perhaps, culturally, Beagles, Vulcans and Denobulans all share a disdain for human timidities, such as a hesitancy to revel in the marvelous sensation of letting one rip ….

I can but speculate on what it is that drives your passion for Phlox, T’Pol and Porthos, but it’s very hard for me not to imagine it has to do with an almost primeval appreciation on your collective parts for exuberant root-toot-tootery.”

Well, if you're looking for a character who's good at their job, interesting, is treated like more than a durable redshirt, and doesn't have an immersion breaking outfit... well, there aren't that many choices.

T'Pol is the most interesting, most complex character
Phlox is a strong character, definitely a mainstay of the production
Unlike most, I like Archer, he's impulsive, not perfect, makes mistakes, just like us all

Trip. He really annoyed me at first but he grew into such a great character.
T’Pol I really admired and enjoyed the whole time.

I mean, the man is awesome in BOTH universes. Even his mirror counterpart. Maximilian Forrest went down with his ship, sacrificing himself so his crew could evacuate. How often does THAT happen in the MU?

Hoshi. While she was hardly realised in the series, I think there was some terrific room for growth. She was naïve, inexperienced, a little frail, but also a wide-eyed optimist. The show could have built her up, broken her and then, somewhere in the last two seasons, see her come into her own. This is before even exploring the potential for episode ideas where inter-species linguistics was finding its footing.

If it helps, if I was building a composite crew of characters from all the shows, Travis is the only one I'd consider taking from ENT. That kid wasn't showy, but he got stuff done and he made very few mistakes. He deserved a promotion almost as much as a certain other ensign I rarely shut up about.

T'Pol and Archer were my favorites, with Trip as a third. I always liked Archer a lot.

I love them all! Trip and T’Pol are my ride or die ship so I’d have to choose them. But Porthos is a beagle so, gotta get down and talk in beagle sounds and play with those adorable velvety floppy ears! Then there’s the overlooked Travis and Hoshi who I must shower affection on because they deserved so much more than they got. Phlox is a badly needed ray of sunshine and I love his more holistic healing modality. Malcom needs a hug so badly and will probably never ask for one and I am not immune to that appeal. Finally, Scott Bakula is such an absolute sweetheart that Archer will always hold a place in my heart too.

I think if he could have said "aye sir" more often he'd have picked up a few votes. Big missed opportunity from the writers of the show.

But I’m a little offended Captain Archer only got one vote. He’s a highlight of the show to me. And a great captain considering how he had to define the role
