1. Kirk. The 1st. The best. A non-pussified Captain who knew when to take the RIGHT risks and knew how to make the tough decisions. Plus he always got the girl.

2. I really can't choose between Sisko and Picard. Picard was a gentleman diplomat who knew how to kick some ass when needed. A very complex man with many layers. Sisko was a soldier and instrumental in winning the Dominion War, and also a really interesting guy..and a great dad too!

3. Janeway. She made some major mistakes, no doubt about that. Some of her actions are difficult to understand. But she found herself in an impossible situation and got her crew home safely. I respect that.

99. Archer. The last (or 1st depending on how you want to look at it). The worst. No direction or charisma. Truly bizarre decision making skills that make Janeway look much better by comparison.

From what we were shown of Pike, i think he's the perfect combination of Picard and Sisko. I am eagerly awaiting to see how they portray him in the new movie.

I change my mind all the time . :vulcan:

I'll go for -

1. Sisco
2. Piccard
3. Kirk
4. Janeway
5. Archer

I find this poll insulting. John Harriman was lacklustre in his 20 minutes of an otherwise lame film...yet he was on the list. Christopher Pike was THE fist captain ever depicted of an Enterprise. He gets the win from me Followed by Sisko, Picard, and Kirk.

the less said about Janeway the better. Archer....isnt that what they call Green Arrow on Smallville?

There is no perfect Capt, they all bring something to the table. Kirk the Cowboy, Pickard the diplomat, Sisko the fighter and peacemaker and Emissary, Janeway the moral compass in the DQ. I did not see much of Ent so I won't comment on his attributes...

BTY Why is Janeway's name in Italics in the op's post ???

No competition - the goddess of course.

Goddess indeed. I absolutely agree!!!

Nobody beats Janeway in my opinion, but then I'm sure that won't surprise many who's been following the past week's discussion in the Trek Literature forum. :)

@2 of 10 - I'm guessing the one in italic is the one you voted for. At least that's true for me.

10,000,000. Harriman

Picard would be my second as well. Sisko third, Kirk fourth and the rest may get themselves organized as they please.

Janeway or no way :D :bolian:

I have nothing against what I've seen of the others though. Hostility is unnecessary, we all have reasons for our opinions.

James T. Kirk

I believe that Herb F. Solow and Robert H. Justman said it best in thier book Inside Star Trek: The Real Story when they wrote something along these lines:

"Picard is the better Captain. He's a diplomat, a scholar and he won't fire his phaser first then ask questions. He is the superior commanding officer. But I would follow James T. Kirk through the gates of hell."
