I just finished reading the first trade of the new Red Hulk series (first six issues), and I think I figured out who “Rulk” is! As far as I know this hasn’t been revealed in the comic yet, right?
IT’S GENERAL ROSS!!!
Rulk has a military mind and isn’t afraid to kill… but he only kills villains. He spared Thor. He punched out the Watcher but he didn’t kill him or anything. He bleeds gamma radiation, which they said means he’s been exposed to it over a long period of time. Ross has hunted Hulk since the 60s… so to speak. He got the SHIELD hand-cannon somehow which would be easy for Ross to do. He was familiar with Rick Jones (“I thought you were dead”). When Rulk storms the Gamma Base, the automated guard at the gate scans his eye and says “Identity confirmed as---“. So whoever Rulk is, his eyeprint is in the SHIELD database, suggesting someone within the military.
And after all, does anyone HATE the Hulk more than General Ross?
I went back and re-read #2 carefully when Rulk attacks the SHIELD Hellicarrier when Ross is on board. We never see them together, in fact Ross along with Samson mysteriously disappears at the end of the battle. And then in #6 we see Samson and Ross (more on that later) complicit in the Rulk conspiracy. At one point Iron Man discovers Ross right next to a place Rulk smashed through, with a huge glowing gamma handprint right there. One second he’s talking to Ross, telling him to get out. In the next panel he starts to leave, facing away from Ross. In the next page, Rulk suddenly appears behind Iron Man smashing him through the elevator shaft. Also, the SHIELD agent who was with Ross and guarding him… turned up dead afterwards.
Now at the end of #6 I thought my theory had just been shot. Ross appears standing over an unconscious Rulk saying he messed up, right after we saw Samson complicit with it as well. But my theory is that this was a hallucination of the split personalities of Ross and Rulk. Rulk was seeing his true self looking down on him with contempt for failing.
Now I’ve only read the first six issues, so what new clues have there been, and has Ross be disproven as a suspect?
