Spoilers Who is the mastermind in Season 3 of Picard?

Dukat as the big bad is not a bad shout. Jack and his red eyes and superpowers might suggest he's a Pah Wraith of some sort. Might explain why "Dukat" is after him. Outlandish but interesting theory.

Dukat, who melted in the fire caves, but is kept alive by the pah wraiths

Strong possibility. The dickish "your physiology is not as complex as you think" kind of lines are very Dukat-esque.
Just like Sisko's mother's body was inhabited by a prophet, wonder if Beverly's body was inhabited by a pah wraith (Ronin?) thus leading to Jack. Thus Jack not really being Beverly's, but part pah wraith?
Same "dream-like" prophet/pah wraith effect during the scene where Jack has acute verterium poisoning (episode 3) Seven smiles telling him to "connect the branches".

Or it could just be the borg queen or something totally different...

The only issue is that Mark Alaimo is not really in the industry anymore..

But ya know ..Robin Curtiss just recently returned after being out for 30 years, so anything is possible.

Because there's really no solid clues delivered. We know Face uses the term "we" in the plural sense, indicating that perhaps Face is a representative of a group or a collective mind (maybe not necessarily the Borg) and that they're of a solid constructive nature as they were mocking Vadic being a changling as being maliable and such.

Kind of hard to go on that.

Another thing about Gul Dukat, he would say “report” often to Demar in their scenes. Granted that is common in military shows. The face says that to Vadic too though. Again probably a weak proof, but something I noticed.

I really hope though it is a TNG villain and not Dukat.

If at all, I think Picard was possessed and well... made the baby XD
That's why she remembers, and he doesn't

My wild guess is that it is..

...Locutus.

When Picard died, the dormant Locutus somehow became an active consciousness again and had orchestrated the events of the season in order to merge with Jack Crusher to "live" again.
That was my theory in the Dominion thread. I figured Picard passed nanotechnology to Jack, and when Jack touches someone, he unknowingly forms a collective with them, hence him being able to hear Sidney and control her to fight the Changelings. Locutus wants Jack so he can assert his control and "activate" the nanites, creating human-looking Borg drones.

What does this have to do with the Changelings? The Changelings hate the solids and (as far as we know) the Borg can't assimilate the Changelings. So, the Changelings lose the solid threat and the Borg get to evolve without looking like horrific monsters.

The evidence we have so far is that this doesn't appear to be a standard "solid" ala humanoid lifeform, the changelings keep waxing lyrical about hating solids so I cannot see them bowing down to one and doing their bidding as a means to achieve the exact same goal.

The face is likely to be some other entity, either non-corporeal such as Prophet/Pah-Wraith or something more advanced like a hybrid such as Borg.

I've said elsewhere and I still hold to it, this is Armus. The face has the ability to impact Vadic's body during the communication and can do stuff at will, I cannot see how Borg could do that remotely unless they had assimilated Vadic to some degree.

There is also the reason of what is behind Jack Crusher, this seems to extend beyond just wrecking frontier day, they NEED him for something given the utter desperation of Vadic. She mentions taking him to a better place and for some reason seems to not want to torture him, but have some plan for him. They mention his true origins implying something else is at play here no one knows about, apart from Beverly.

The only thing I can think is that something infiltrated her body or did experiments (ghost candle left something of himself in her and this was passed on) and this special gene in his body is what could reunite Armus with the Changelings and nothing else will do as Picard's body on it's own is only half of the puzzle.

Still thinking it could be Ardra. Tortured and beaten changelings would be easy to manipulate as they already have a grudge.

Yes my earlier theory was that Acadia was Ardra but now that’s been disproven I’ll just move the theory up a level.

We still don't know what Picard and his crew did most of the time during the Dominion War. Perhaps they had their own confrontation(s) with Dukat and/or the Female Founder...

Maybe we'll get a flashback during the next episodes ;)

Beverly said the Borg were re-writing Picard's DNA in Best of Both Worlds.
Picard's Borg DNA being the Macguffin still doesn't explain why they don't just use Tuvok, who they have in custody, who's also ex-Borg. And if they need the child of an ex-Borg, if they got Tuvok, then they can get Miral Paris. Unimatrix Zero considerably widened the amount of Trek main characters who were assimilated.

I've been thinking 'Locutus' for a few weeks. It just clicks with some of the traits of the season's writing too strongly.

Dukat would thrill me and frustrate me in equal measure.
