Who is the girl? [PICARD]

Thinking about it more deeply, the Borg are simply not known for speed or strength. Their MO is basically durability, sheer numbers, and their near-impenetrable personal shielding. So her combat prowess doesn't really scream out Borg to me, unless she's just very minorly augmented by nanoprobes, with a bunch of other stuff going on as well.

In that episode of Voyager where seven fights Dwayne the rock Johnson isn't the reason seven does so well at wrestling because of her borg "superior strength and speed"

I must say, on Summer Glau considering she was the hottest young genre actress coming out of firefly it's kind of crazy to think she's 37 now and only ever really did 2 seasons of that terminator show.

Fillion and to a lesser attention Monica Baccarin really were the only two from firefly who I see in a lot of stuff.

Alan Tudyk is in a lot of stuff I watch. He always cracks me up as Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball, and if you haven't seen Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, you're in for a treat :techman:

The Borg aligned with Lore in TNG's Descent two-parter were, in Riker's words, "fast, aggressive, almost vicious". They can move when they want to. Some of the drones in First Contact showed considerable dexterity, fast reactions and fighting ability.

They just choose not to (most of the time).

Her IMDB/Wikipedia suggests she's working. Maybe not as much as her early promise seemed to indicate she might, but I'm guessing she's making her living as an actress. Firefly has had such a long tail and I'm sure you could pay your mortgage just off of convention appearances. I think both her Firefly appearance and T:SCC probably led to her being typecast a a 'bit weird'. Having two such similar roles so early on may have damaged her career considerably. Just ask Mark Hamill.

Baccarin had a recurring role in the later seasons of Stargate SG-1. Her most high profile roles were as the love interest in both Deadpool movies as well as a voice part in The Flash. Given superhero film budget she may well be pulling in more in fees than Fillion at this point.

Yeah, most of the cast were "unknowns" then and nobodies now. Glau had minor genre cachet coming off "Firefly" which landed her "Terminator", but eventually Hollywood catches on that you just don't have any talent and there's plenty more people waiting in the wings.

"Suggests she's working"? She's had two legit jobs in the past five years, one of which was a guest shot on "Castle" that her old friend Fillion obviously got for her.

Yeah, no. She had a series regular role on the first three seasons of "Homeland" which was a major commercial and critical success and was a series regular on "Gotham", another hit that just concluded its five season run.

Yeah, I didn't mean she was doing well. Just that she was still active as an actor. It doesn't take that many one off TV appearance fees to keep your life ticking over in Hollywood even if you're not earning the big bux. Maybe you don't get the House in Beverly Hills with the pool but you might still be able to afford a nice apartment in Santa Monica with a balcony and get invited to lots of parties. But who knows.

How could I forget Homeland. So yeah, definitely her career seems to be going well, we don't disagree there.

Anyway this is getting off topic innit.

Haha. Guess so! :)

Sadly, the "girl" in Picard initially strikes me as similar to River Tam, as I initially said, which worries me, as I thought that was easily the weakest element of "Firefly", in terms of acting AND writing.

I think you folks are missing a trick in this trailer.

Picard says she is in serious danger. Not that she's a danger to the universe. It's just guy on the floor who says that. Who knows who he is?

Guy says she's 'the destroyer' but who knows what his agenda is now?

Here's my Monday morning theory:

The series 1 arc is going to be a parable about asylum/immigration. It is the hot button issue and an analogy for the European asylum crisis and the current issues at the US border would play well with their current demographic. Given Discovery wasn't particularly 'moralistic' I could well see the pendulum swinging back and ST:P going down the preachy route.

So speculation:

The Romulans found a disabled Borg cube and started to de-assimilate / interrogate the drones who were still alive and dissect the ones who were dead and their technology. The prison with the 5843 days sign is a 'holding centre' for former drones to ensure they pose no threat before being allowed their freedom. It's not really working that way though, due to paranoia about the Borg, prisoners are being abused, denied their rights, and effectively never allowed to leave.

When Hobus exploded the Federation was forced to take over the running of this facility. Picard viewed it as inhumane but Starfleet argued these policies should be continued. He was morally outraged, so quit.

The girl is an escapee that Picard can use as leverage to finally expose what's been happening. She's spent half her life in detention. She's in danger because the powers that be want her silenced. Picard will take the moral high ground, and end up pitted against the Federation and Starfleet itself in an effort to expose what's been going on.

I think that this is probably the likeliest scenario. BUT, that whole don't you know who I am but leads me to believe that she's some sort of Queen clone or daughter of Locutus and the Queen. Not that I necessarily am hoping for that. Man, I just hope this doesn't become a problem for Star Trek. You know, how nobody's pet hypothesis panned out with The Last Jedi and some people started whining about it?

Going OT, Adam Baldwin has had a solid career, four seasons of Chuck, plus he guest spots on things like Law and Order, and does voice work. Ron glass was already famous but then kind of tapered off as he aged. Alan Tudyk is in absolutely everything. He's probably the most successful out of all of them.

Fillion's always got work, Morena's had seasons of stuff. I think that the only one who really did nothing is Simon.

I was really just focusing on Glau, but yeah, Simon/Sean/whatever has completely dropped off the face. Jewel Staite isn't really on anyone's radar, but works fairly consistently in Canada.

perhaps the borg have a battery saving mode they usually use, and a high power mode if they need it XD

In their first appearance, Borg drones flung human characters across the room without the slightest effort.

In hand-to-hand combat, they overpower Worf and even give Data difficulty.

They're strong. VERY strong.

They don't move fast because they don't have to.

Okay so... who is the girl played by Isa Briones? IMDB gives her the name Dahj. Let's speculate until early 2020 when we all find out and are disappointed.

Is she Lal resurrected, mind-wiped and wearing a new face? A young Borg Queen awaiting some Red Angel-style temporal silliness to make her the Queen? Spock's quarter-Vulcan daughter (hence the round ears)? An advanced Borg infiltration drone? Why does she feel safe around Picard?
dont know is this is old hat, but my guess is one of the folks from the captain picard day turbolift disaster
