Who Is Riker's Favorite Author?

Red Ranger

Admiral
In Memoriam
We all know Picard's favorite author was Shakespeaere. And while I'm sure Riker enjoyed Shakespeare, who do you think his favorite author is?

Being American, I'd guess his favorite author might me an American. I would pick Ernest Hemingway, as his rugged individualism would appeal to Riker, born and raised in Alaska. Or perhaps Herman Melville, Nathaniel Hawthorne, or Mark Twain.

Why? Picard is French, and his favorite author is English.

I dunno, I get the feeling that a lot of Riker's reading involves the words "Dear Penthouse..." Or maybe that's his writing.

I don't think he'd be into anyone classical or poetical. He's not really a classical man. He'd probably chew on more relaxed literature. Steven King or something

That, by 24th century standards, is classical literature :P

I think his favorite author is a contemporary one from the 24th century.

Seeing as how he's into jazz, and 20th century jazz in particular, that's why I thought he might appreciate a 20th century American author, as jazz is American music. He does know his American history, as has been demonstrated a few times in TNG and once in VOY. And just because the French Picard's favorite author was English doesn't mean Riker, as proudly American as he was depicted, wouldn't have an affinity for American authors.

I guess I always had him pegged as a reader of classic Westerns...Louis L'amour and Zane Grey.

I could also see him reading James Michner.

It would've been nice from time to time if Picard quoted French authors like Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, or Albert Camus.

Regarding Westerns, perhaps those authors are Deanna Troi's faves, as she's fascinated with that era, as seen in A Fistful of Datas. I can certainly see Riker enjoying James Michener or Herman Wouk.
