Who got shafted?

And I'm not saying anyone did...but of the major characters introduced in THE EMISSARY, so no including Worf, which Major character got the least about of character development. We all know DS9's best attribute, at least in my opinion, was the growth of the characters...but would you like to have seen more done with one of the majors???

Jadzia. Not Jadzia Dax, but Jadzia the host.

We know almost nothing of who Jadzia is and what unique traits she contributed to the symbiont. Ezri had a much more fully developed personality in one year than Jadzia did in six.

I agree with that. We at least got to see some of who Ezri was before she was joined, in season 7. We never even saw nearly as much of Jadzia Whateverherlastnamewasprejoining, in 6 seasons.

You know? I hadn't thought of that, but I agree. T'liesha is right too. We got Ezri's family history by her second solo story. Jadzia did get jipped. Maybe thats why she left the show.

My vote is for Jake.

His character developed, but not by as much as I think it could have.

If anything, he became progressively more annoying.

Poor Jake was shafted big time in Season 7. The writers managed to balance the other leads and recurring characters with the new girl's development reasonably well, but Jake got nothing. He never had so much as a minor subplot the entire season.

They seemed more interested sometimes in developing background characters than the regulars. I think Rom got more screen time than Jake which is a travesty. Quark also got the short end of the stick. He was much better when he was actually running the local black market instead of that wacky Ferengi he became later.

DS9 didn't do much of anything with Jake. Garak should have been a main character instead.

I agree. Jake should really have been more along the lines that Alexander played in TNG - a recurring character.

Garak would have been a much better regular character. Although in reality, I'd bet he got more screen time than did Jake anyway.

Truthfully, although I love Jadzia, she got shafted in season 4 and 5. There much stories to develop her life pre and after joining. That said, she was an excellent Dax and my personal favorite of the two Dax we saw.

Jake indeed got shafted in the final season. I'd have liked at least sub-plot with Nog, just before the finale. Its a shame we didn't get anything from him.

And I'd like add Alexander, even though he isn't a DS9 regular, DS9 did re-introduce him in season 6, and I would've liked to have seen him in at least the opening episodes of season 7. I always liked Alexander, btw.

I think whoever they got to play Alexander on Ds9 dropped the ball..I wasn't really digging it. He seemed like a fan dressed up like a klingon. Maybe that was his acting style, but I never connected with him on DS9 as I did when he was on TNG...

I can't even remember what Jake did in S7 other than help develop Nog. Quark lost out to Rom and Nog which is just weird.

I think more could have been done with Jadzia. I think the writers decided they liked to write a younger Curzon than Jadzia. However Jadzia would never have seen herself has two people so focusing on Jadzia Dax made sense. It helped Ezri also as there was a much more defined difference between the two.

I agree with both Jake and Jadzia the host. Jadzia was always talking about one of her past hosts memories/experiences and never about herself prior to the joining. We should have had more Jake central episodes in which we see how he's adapting to life w/o his mother, growing into the teen years and etc. No Jake-saves-the-day ala Wesley Crusher stuff though.

The problem with giving Garak more screen time is that the more we saw him, the less mysterious he became.

Sounds like everyone was worried about Jadzia's background more than development. I think that character finally came into it's own once Ferrell had Dorn to play off of.

I'm going to join the crowd and say Jake. Cirroc showed some real acting chops in The Visitor. I would loved to have seen life thru Jake's eyes. Perhaps and episode a la Lower Decks (TNG). Life on the station from a non-Starfleet perspective.

I wonder if his going to school in real life hindered what they could do with him?...but yeah, I agree..more of Jake would have been cool...I even thought the crush he had on Ezri could have gone further, on his end, too...

I don't think any of the characters got shafted. The point of Jake was to show Sisko as a father... WEll, they did that. Jake was now an adult... And for you adults out there, you know that realistically you don't see your dad every day. JaKe had his own thing, and it was on his own. Frankly, I am glad they didn't have him going on Defiant missions every week, or worst yet, saving the day!

Personally, I would have enjoyed seeing Jake join the crew as a tech for the Chief, or a security officer for Odo

I got three names:

1) Jake because the guy was actually an okay actor and deserved more.

2) Kai Opaka because I wanted to see her more. she was cool.

3) Dukat and not because he wasn't developed. He was. but he got shafted in the end. I consider DS9's treatment of this character one of DS9's biggest drawbacks. it's on par with VOY's stupidity, ENT's idiotic Trip/T'Pol fauxmance and TOS's vomit-in-your-mouth episode Turnabout Intruder.

Jadzia and Ezri, both almost zero development and 100% useless & irrelevant to the plot of the show. I don't think more should have been done with them though. They simply never should have been on the show, that's a much better solution.
