who else has a PRIME DIRECTIVE

It seems to me that only the Federation has a Prime Directive. We are allies of the Klingons, we have not absorbed them. What if there was a situation where Picard and crew came across a Klingon ship about to something that would violate the directive? Would Picard have to act to stop the Klingons? Or would that be violating the non-interfence thingy we seem to employ when dealing with dealings of the Klingon Empire in Picard's time.

And certainly the Romulans, Jem Hedar and Cardassians don't follow such a directive.

So..is the Prime Directive really logical in a galaxy that seems to, as a galactic norm, not follow it at all??

Or is this one of those high-minded concepts? Because, on a tactical level, it seems very restricting.

There was an Original series episode that dealt with that. The Klingons were providing weapons to one side in a civil war between the Yangs and the Coms. Kirk decided that the only thing was for the Fed to provide equal weapons to the other side. I believe the episode was called "Balance of Terror."

So we (FEDS) would violate the directive if someone else was about to as well. Well, there must be a lot of violating going on because it is quite clear that most of our advisaries don't have a Prime Directive. So if we violate it on occasions because they do, then why have one at all??

you are thinking of "A Private Little War". "Balance of Terror" was the first episode that featured the Romulans.

And the Yangs and Coms are from "Omega Glory"

The VOY episode "Prime Factors" featured a race that denied Voyager access to technology because they had their own version of the Prime Directive. The episode was a bit heavy-handed, but it was kind of nice to see Starfleet on the receiving end of the PD.

Er, who's "we?" The Federation? We're not the Federation. We're us. From reality. We're not Federates.

It would probably depend upon what the ship was doing, whose authority it was operating under, and the specifics of the Khitomer Accords. For instance, if it was a rogue ship operating under the authority of the criminal House of Duras, the Feds could probably stop them. If it was a ship that was part of the Klingon Defense Force operating on orders from the Chancellor, then the Khitomer Accords, and the Prime Directive, would probably both obligate the Feds not to intervene.
