I prefer Seven. She had a real soft side to her. It makes up for her horrible body. (j/k of course!)
Seven was a more compelling character, despite acting like an automaton.
The show was never in danger of cancellation surely?
Kes was delightful, and Seven was a trick. They figured out the lowest common denominator and manifested it. The degree to which you were pleased by the Borgette is the degree to which you are predictable and how well Berman can out think and manipulate you. Of course that also means that if she didn't satisfy you, then you're just really really weird.
Poochie anyone?
Agreed. There was an absolute gold mine of potential material to explore with a Kes / Seven friendship. The fact it didn't happen counts for me as one of Voyager's biggest missed opportunities. Why have to choose? I honestly think we should have gotten both - Kes was the wrong character to ditch.

I like both characters. Kes was an intriguing idea for a character, as was Seven. Both were played by above-average actresses. Both contributed a great deal to the show. That's about all I can say on the matter.

Actually at one point, I believe they were planning to kill off Harry instead of have Kes leave. That would have made for a more interesting twist, imo.

This is just a modern day retelling of the classic conundrum... Maryanne or Ginger?

And Janeway would be Mrs Howell? Kim as Gilligan?

I got halfway through starting a thread on this last week, since assigning the roles could lead to some artistic choices. Well, apart from Harry being Gilligan.
Janeway is Mr Howell.
