Who DIDN'T see this coming (Beiber)

Celebrities being assholes is one thing, but drunk driving is an incredibly selfish, vile thing to do and I think he should be called out on it, especially since he's so famous. If they wave this away because of his fame then it sends a pretty powerful message that drunk driving doesn't have much in the way of consequences.

Don't judge too harshly, at least he was responsible enough to have his mates block the road off with their cars first.

I mean, if you're gonna drive drunk, that's smart thinking!

I mean, a DUI is a DUI. I'm sure consequences vary state by state. I know quite a few people who have had them, and if it's only their first offense, the penalties really aren't that dire. Fines...temporarily suspended license, but even that's not a guaranteed punishment.

My view is anyone can misjudge where the legal limit is and drive one. However, there's really no excuse for doing it more than once (beyond that you probably have substance abuse issues).

Of course, drunkenly drag racing is a little different.

Between him and Miley Cyrus and Amanda Bynes...

Geeze, can't we just skip over this generation of 'celebrities' or something?

Let's hope that the next generation of stars don't go by these brats for an example. Although I ain't exactly hopeful... :shifty:

Not to defend him at all, but I think back when you were 20 years old, and now add a ton of money in the bank, fast cars, a big mansion, people telling you how great you are, and a whole lot of time on your hands; I'd probably end up being a major douche too. This guy needs a constant 'NO' man in his group.

Pretty much it.. the NO part should be his parents but apprently they condone his behaviour from what i read (his dad helped organize the illegal street race if reports are true).

No person his age should have this much money and nobody to keep him grounded.. sometimes it's friends, sometimes it's parents but there should always be someone whom he trusts and who's not affected by the money.

The people profiting from his money won't reign him in for sure because they don't want to risk him getting mad and cutting them off from the money so they'll agree to anything.

Putting aside the usual knee-jerk Justin Beiber hate (for his music, not his antics), in what way has he not earned his fame, compared to how other teen pop idols have risen to prominence over the decades? It's not like he's some talentless hack thrust into the spotlight who can't hold a tune or give his target audience a performance they enjoy. Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because you aren't that target audience (which is fine; neither am I) that he hasn't worked hard and earned his fame as many have done before.

That's the thing that's always gotten to me - even before he started behaving badly, people had kneejerk reactions of hatred whenever he was in the news. And yet, 35 years ago, those same people were going gaga (no, not Gaga ;) ) over Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett and the Bay City Rollers (during the three months when it was kind of cool to like the Bay City Rollers, though I do have a friend who is still a fan).

My reaction has always been: we middle-aged old farts are not his target audience. I may be the oldest non-parent, and the only person posting in this thread, who has actually been to a Bieber concert (no, I didn't lose a bet - a friend had an extra ticket and it seemed silly to let it go to waste, so I went with my friend), so I can say with some authority that the 8-to-14-year-old girls, who are his target audience, got exactly the experience they wanted and enjoyed it immensely. Who are we to say that this is in any way a bad thing?

Me? I'm willing to admire his showmanship, but I found the music cookie-cutter and uninteresting.

What I want to know is how he caused $20000 worth of damage egging a house.

They were Faberge eggs. ;)

...and he's not even of legal drinking age!

Sure, but he's Canadian, he's of legal drinking age in the country in which he was raised.

Well, different provinces have different drinking ages, but he grew up in Stratford, Ontario, and our drinking age is 19. But that doesn't really matter - anyone is still subject to the laws in the jurisdiction they're currently in. So if the drinking age in Florida is 21, then he shouldn't have been drinking. (Though I won't come down too heavily on him for that, since I'm pretty sure I had my first alcoholic drink in a bar when I was 15 or 16...)

Some of the blame has to go to the enablers he's surrounded himself with, though I do have to wonder where Drake has been through all this. He's been part of Bieber's circle since Bieber was discovered, and he went through the whole teenage celebrity thing (he started out on Degrassi: The Next Generation when he was 15), and seems to have turned out okay. You'd think he'd have smacked Bieber upside the head a few times by now.

Between him and Miley Cyrus and Amanda Bynes

What exactly did Miley Cyrus do that's comparable to this?

She came in like a wrecking ball?

It really dawned on me how fucked up our priorities are when I turned on Headline News this morning and Bieber was the top story over such things as heating fuel shortages and the storms that keep hitting the Midwest and Northeast.

Their plan to mask the voyage of the ghost ship is working.

Expensive million dollar home + paint damaging eggs = $$$$$$

$20,000 for repainting the exterior walls and door?
Exterior walls of a multi-million dollar home are painted with custom paint. Paint matching is an expensive endeavor.
OMG this guy SERIOUSLY needs a life editor:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/n...self-to-michael-jackson-after-arrest-20140124

Scroll down for the photo he intagrammed about his media persecution or whatever..
I see the similarities:
-Both were males who tried to look like females.
-Both surrounded by fanatic fans who think their celebrity can do no wrong & believe they are being persecuted by the law.
-Both spent obscene amounts of money fulfilling their fantasies... the nature of which were, often as not, illegal.
-Both spent small fortunes attempting to repair their images.

Talent... or perceived talent... is in the eye of the beholder. I do agree with those who stated that those who "earned" their fame through years or decades of hard, unrecognized work tend to survive the trappings of fame and fortune. Those who are given fame early-on often do not handle it well. We see this among sports figures, too.

I'd have so much fun giving away money, and paying for other peoples' restaurant bills.

I don't really get wild that way.

Characters may change, especially at such a young age when you have near limitless ressources and no one to keep you grounded.

I guess when people scramble to fulfill your every wish no matter how outrageous you can easily get full of yourself. I've read numerous reports about lottery winners who lost it after winning so much money, turning into douchebags and pissing it all away. Many regret afterwards having gotten so much money.

Yeah, when I was a child, we were homeless, so getting full of myself just isn't going to happen at this point. I've been at the bottom, and I didn't like it. To me, money is just a tool, and doesn't make anyone better or worse than anyone else. Of course, I figure Justin had a good upbringing, so all I can think is that the money and the fame changed him, which is a shame. He started off doing good, and now he's entering some kind of rebellious phase. Hopefully he'll come out of it and be a good guy again.

I have a theory that Justin Bieber was actually 'born' as an Internet meme who achieved sentience and escaped into the real world. Kind of like the serial killer Sid 6.7 in Virtuosity. Only more dangerous.
