Who cringed at the Ear-critter scene in part 2?

I did when i first saw this movie on video as a kid and still do. It's such a painful scene to watch almost even for a PG-rating.

As far as I can remember it's my earliest memory of Star Trek when I first watched it for the first time in the mid 80's. I don't remember how old I was but I couldn't have been any older than 10 when I first saw it, maybe on a TV broadcasting sometime between '88 to '90. Pretty scary stuff at the time.

Definitely! I still cringe when I see it! Its more the thought of that thing inside your head then the actual special effect for me!

it did freak me out as a kid. as an adult the fact that they built a giant ear is fairly creepy to me for some reason.

Remember, back in the day PG was actually a catchall rating that, in modern terms, would encompass everything between the hardest Gs and the lightest Rs. Remember Sixteen Candles? PG and it has boobs and ass. In the first fifteen minutes.

Oh, and of course I was freaked out, especially as a kid. I have a pretty bad phobia of bugs.

I never minded, but my Mom, a casual Trek fan cringed or even turned away each time I would watch in on VHS (haven't seen the film with her in years)

Weird, kind of like how "Secret of NIMH" and "Last Unicorn" were both dark toon movies that got "G" ratings instead of PG ratings. Even "Critters 2" had a close-up of a scene of knockers growing out of a faceless alien while transforming into a playboy centerfold, it was "PG-13" suprisingly.
