Who cleans the Enterprise?

Quite apart froom the day to day dirt acumlating on the decks, it must be someones job to remove dead red shirts from the decks, let along when someone staggers out of Ten Forward at 1 am, just as the Ship desribes a negative g manouver. messy!

I'm a moderately fanatical fan of Star Trek, but I had a roommate back in the early 90's who thought that it would be really cool if we were janitors on the Enterprise. You know, no real responsibilities, essentially a cake job in the Federation, but able to be a part of the whole experience; kind of like the peanut gallery... he really got into the whole fantasy. So I realized that I need to keep a respectful distance from the more fanatical fans (didn't renew that lease). Online is close enough, but hey, you guys are great.

Yes we know it's just a TV show.

C'mon I'm not thinking like that, I posted a question earlier about when our timeline diverged from the ST history and someone posted "9/8/66". I should have responded to them "then why are you here?" This is a serious discussion about a fictional universe that we all wish we were a part of, including me. At the time, it made me uncomfortable that someone was more invested in the fantasy than i was because I wasn't comfortable with my own feelings about it all. Now IDGAF what people think, i was just relating a moment from my past but didn't give it the proper context, my apologies. Does anyone else sometimes now or in the past feel embarrassed by their passion for this show?

OK very bad grammar on my part and posting in a hurry. I should have put a smiley at the end of my post.

I'm having fun with this thread, and it's enjoyable. I think you might have had fun had I put the smiley in my post.

Well, one too many vodka OJs influenced my response, heck janitor would be a pretty cool gig really, providing you knew you weren't going to die every week.

I find myself remembering Star Trek: Deep Stain Nine- These are the brave men and women...who clean the clothes of the brave men and women, who boldly go...

Whoever is doing it,it does a terrible job (although it can be only seen on the Blu-Rays).

That's exactly what I wanted to respond with. I bought the blu-ray box set of TNG from Best Buy for less than $100 last week, and have been working my way through season 1. One of the first things you notice is the dirty carpet on the bridge.

But to answer your question, I think in one of the episodes they say the ship is self-cleaning.

Good question. Could be the red shirts just before they are sent out on a suicide mission. Or maybe it's the fairies that clean up on cooking shows?

M-O (who can guess the reference?)
Do you mean Mr. Orton from Starship Mine, "cleaning" the Enterprise with a baryon sweep?

I'm going with this guy:

In VOY Zimmerman states something along the lines that the EMH mark 1 was decommissioned and was cleaning salvage ships or something (can't remember) so I would have to assume that some less advanced photonic being is doing the dirty work on the enterprise

That whole concept makes less and less sense. They would have needed holo-emitters in the conduits they were cleaning and the EMH 1 would only be able to be in that area.

As for them being sentient, yes and no. They were basically designed to do a task and then be shut off. The EMH more or less considers itself a function, and requests to be turned off when not in use.

(Anyone ever wonder what happened to the Mark 2 and 3 models? In Voyager season 6 they were up to Mark 4 EMH programs.)

Sooo who cleaned the Enterprise? Despite all the technology I would like to think they kept it practical with a damage control team that doubled as a cleaning crew. Most of the time on the diplomatic voyages of the NCC-1701-D they were probably a cleaning crew. ;)
