I'm pissed that the designated captain wasn't revealed. I wonder who would end up the real captain next season, though?

Probably Garth. Fan service combined with the pattern of Disco being assigned psycho captains.
Saru's clearly not going to be the captain, at least initially, because they're going to Vulcan to pick up the captain.
I mean, how would that work? Would they say "Surprise Saru! A captain is you!" and break out the party hats? If they were going to promote him immediately, they would have done so in the season finale.
They clearly want someone with some household recognition and/or charisma to step in as the captain for the second season. They want to boost CBS All Access signup after all.
Maybe, if you're really lucky, they'll pick some placeholder who dies within a few episodes, and then Saru gets a promotion. But that seems doubtful at the moment.
Having accident on their way to Vulcan, and bang, Saru becomes the captain. When they picked up the distress call I was initially certain that this was what was happening, and that the designated captain waiting on Vulcan was a ruse. Still could be.
That's how I'm envisioning the (slight) possibility of Captain Burnham. She's going to be captain in Season 3, though, right?

I think a title credits of: Green - Jones - Rapp - Wiseman - Coutts - Oladejo - Mitich and New Woman Captain Ringer Person would be pretty great to see.

I like this idea - in theory - but given they were glorified extras, we don't really know if they can - you know - act.
I also wonder if all of them have signed on for the next season. It's certainly hasn't been the most notable role for any of them so far, and if they got a big break somewhere else, it would be preferable to risking another season with the possibility ab average of only one line per episode.
I wonder if the show runners have even decided? Given Isaacs acclaim for his run in s1, it opens the door for it to be him. But really that door is wide, wide open right now.
They'll bring in reruns of a 21st century British sci-fi series as Captain -- Black Mirror.
