White Meat or Dark Meat

Turkey is turkey. Long as it's properly cooked I could really care less what part of the bird it comes from. It's all delish!

What I'm wondering is, is a yam the same thing as a sweet potato, and also is "stuffing" only supposed to be called that when it's inside the bird? I always used to think my grandmother was being old fashioned when she called it "dressing" (which I never use, BTW, I equate the word 'dressing' with salad).

Yams and Sweet Potatoes are two different things but, mostly, look and taste the same. A Sweet Potato is more starchy and like potato and is what most of us use on Thanksgiving. A yam is a bit denser and for the most part in the U.S. we don't use "true" yams. But, Sweet Potatoes labeled as "yam sweet potatoes."

And, yes, it's only called "stuffing" when it's stuffed inside something (and for best cooking, and health, should never be stuffed inside the turkey) otherwise it's called "dressing."
