This film, Whiplash, received a lot of awards or nominations. I was actually elated when JK got the award for best supporting actor as he seems like a talented, and stand-up guy.
I still haven't seen the film, but I really don't know, based on trailers, clips, and reviews, why I'd ever want to, except of course for all the little awards plastered over the beginning of the trailer (like Birdman which wasn't all that great). But the main thing here is that JK's character seems like an asshole, to the Nth degree.. so much so that it's a caricature of an asshole. I feel like I know the message of this film already, and watching and hour and half of this over-exaggerated jerk doesn't seem like a productive way to spend my time.. nor does it seem like entertainment.
Is it just me?
