He was in so many episodes and even a main character for certain ones, it's hard to even think of him as a guest actor or side character!

Issacs definitely isn't. He made that abundantly clear in the Jeopardy game he was in on the Cruise.

I have a lot of respect for Trek actors who aren't fans themselves but really give it their all.

In Shatner's Star Trek Movie Memories book, he wrote that George Takei was far and away the biggest Trek fan out of the TOS cast, to the point of getting made up as Vulcan to be in a crowd scene at the end of STIII, because when else was he going to get a chance to wear a pair of Vulcan ears?....

Interesting, Takei has stated he was not a science fiction fan before doing Star Trek, had only "read a couple of science fiction books in the past", and signed on the TV show as just another job. He became quite a fan of ST though.

As an adjunct to this topic I've long been curious about how many ST actors were science fiction fans before doing ST. Also, many became fans of ST, but that does not necessarily mean of science fiction in general (if you become "rich and famous" doing something you will probably have a certain affection for it).

Not STAR TREK, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover years ago that Ben Browder (FARSCAPE, STARGATE) was a big fan of written SF, particularly of the sort written by Larry Niven, Vernor Vinge, etc. I ended up sending him a care package of Tor Books and got a nice thank-you letter in return.

More recently, at Shore Leave, Anson Mount kept talking up Greg Egan, an Australian science-fiction writer. He was particularly high on Egan's novel, DIASPORA. (Picked up a copy on Amazon on his recommendation, but haven't had a chance to read it yet.)

For sure, and hopefully that came through in the OP. Even among the most cynical actors from Trek, I appreciate their work and dedication to their craft. Even for the ones who feel silly wearing "pajama" uniforms and haven't mastered the technobabble, they've made awesome contributions.

On CBS-AA, it was nice to hear Patrick, Jeri, Brent and "Hugh" talking about what Trek meant to them. Some cool stories.
