I changed every single pic in the first post to links. Please be more careful with only hotlinking pictures from sites you own or give you special permission to hotlink (they're fine as a link, just not in the post itself because it steals bandwidth from whoever originally hosts them).

I'm torn between TWOK and FC. I love TWOK because of the colour, it just makes a statement. FC look more practical I guess, but I always like it better with the jacket off.

Does anyone get the feeling the 'future' costume designers were getting a bit nostagic for TWOK uniforms with regards to that wrap-around look?

TWOK - TUC...the design seems slightly formal, but then they wore them as dress uniforms too, it seems. For me, the rank insignia makes the outfit...no pips, no stripes, etc. There's something endearing to me about the metal insignia. I wonder why they chose those particular shapes?

I went with the FC-Nem uniforms but like the TWOK colour coding and Rank identification alot, to me probably the most detailed uniforms in Star Trek (although Enterprise did also introduce Enlisted rank pins). I've always liked to imagine combining the FC uniforms with the colour coding of the TWOK uniforms (with a slight variation of course to blend in) and also using the NCO ranks that started with O'Briens chevrons.

The TMP uniforms look like they'd be very uncomfortable to wear.

The male cast used to find walls to "rest" against between takes...

So did the cast of TNG for the first couple of seasons until they introduced the two piece uniforms...

I for one liked the TWOK uniforms, but would have liked to seen the jackets done in the department colors.

Someone photshopped a "cast pic" of TWOK and did just that and they looked FANTASTIC!

My favorite is far and away the TWOK-TUC uniforms. As others have said, they look the most to me like a true military uniform. Though, to be honest, I didn't really like it when Nick Meyer took them one step farther toward military authenticity by adding the ribbons and medals to several of the uniforms. But, overall, I think it's the most authentic looking, as well as the best in appearance. I agree it seems more like a dress uniform than a duty uniform, but we see that there are variants for those working in engineering, those on landing party and combat duty, etc.

My second-favorite would be the 3rd season and later TNG uniforms.

Least favorite probably goes to the late DS9/First Contact uniforms. Why? Because they are so lacking in color. Star Trek, in all other incarnations, has always had bright, colorful uniforms. That might not match our modern military, but it has been distinct for Star Trek, and I think it's looked good. Although the First Contact uniforms certainly look well-constructed and don't look bad on the actors, I miss the colors. Same with the early DS9/Voyager uniforms. The little bit of color isn't enough for me.

i thought the TWOK-TUC uniforms looked the best on the big screen. they definitely 'popped,' which is what they were meant for.

i am going to give Abrams' "Reimagined" TOS-era my vote. They are improvement to the TOS uniforms because they have darker tone to it.
I also like TMP & TFC uniforms.

Well, to be honest, I really like the Voyager outfits.

One thing's for sure, I least like the Origonal Star Trek uniforms. They were too casual.

I prefer the early DS9 style- looks nice IMHO, but I understand the logic of the late DS9 style- you can tell which section the officers are, but its not so obvious that someone can stand from a distance and snipe off all the people in command either.

I went with the late DS9/FC era uniforms

Followed by the Crimson Uniforms of the TWoK/TUC era

and then well thrid for me is the Tradition TOS Uniforms

Personally:

I like the ENT uniforms best - they just seem the most practical to me.

Runner up would be the FC/late-DS9 unis.

Tough choice for me. I love the TUC uniforms, and I really like Abrams' TOS uniforms. However, the winner for me is the Late DS9/First Contact era uniforms. Just awesome, all the way around.

I like the TOS uniforms...followed by the Trek 2009 uniforms....then the 1st season TNG uniforms. :techman:

I really do dislike those overcoats from the TOS films though.... :(

I like the First Contact ones--though I also think the TWOK ones are very attractive from an aesthetic perspective.

The ENT ones, though, win for practicality and "most likely to actually BE the look of the first space uniform." Considering our current astronauts wear flight suits, that is actually plausible.

The one problem with all of these uniforms, though--including the battle fatigues we saw on AR-558--is that none of them look very practical for combat whereas other species, like the Klingons and Cardassians, wear things that actually look like they MIGHT deflect debris or at least really make your hand hurt if you throw a punch at them.

My favorite uniform is the first-season Captain's wrap with the scrambled eggs on the shoulder instead of the braid on the sleeve. TOS is my favorite design, preferably the third season version made out of the nylon material. I like the Phase II collars tho' and the buccaneer pants with the slit in the cuff that were made for the abandoned series. So my perfect uniform would be a combination of the first-season wrap with the Phase II trousers.

I really love the 2009 Trek uniforms, especially since they retain the basic silhouette of Thesis' original design.

I'm also fond of the first-season TNG uniforms for their simplicity, much in Thesis design aesthetic.

The TWOK-GEN uniforms were pretty to look at, but highly impractical for a working uniform. As a dress uniform, they were fine.

I like the TMP uniforms for the variation, especially the white short sleeve uni.
