Which Starship Captain would make a good U.S. President?

Picard.

Because he speaks with an English accent, thus having him controlling America would simply be restoring America to its proper status.

Well said!

Rofl! (If you were joking)

I wouldn't mind for Archer or Janeway being presidents.
Archer may have had bad luck on some first contacts, but that was because Humans were just starting out.
Also Archer lacked the advanced technology of the Enterprise-D which in turn saved Picard or gave him the upper hand in numerous situations thus furthering his own diplomatic agenda.

I think any one of them has a good shot at it.
Sisko and Kirk don't seem like the types of people who would
take up such positions or much less deal with them effectively.
Other 3 captains on the other hand seem like a better choice.

But to tell you the truth, in this day any one of them would effectively be an outstanding president.

Could you imagine Kirk giving the State of the Union? All the...halting...speech patterns would drive people nuts.
That's the case now.

I'd choose Sisko. From what I've seen of DS9 so far, Sisko can balance competing interests and come up with a workable solution, or, if necessary, can drop the hammer. He listens and is guided by his staff in their own expertise, even if he doesn't agree. He can forge an alliance with an historical enemy in order to focus on a common threat.

Archer would make a terrific Secretary of State because he has no guile. Andorians, Tellarites, and Vulcans all came to trust him, and that kind of credibility is invaluable. He was good at thinking on his feet, and also demonstrated great instincts about people and how to get them to see things his way.

Picard? He was too convinced of his own rightness to sit well with me. His arrogance could get us involved in civil wars and peacekeeping actions halfway around the world from which we could not extricate ourselves ... oh, wait. Never mind.

I don't know anything about Janeway, but she sounds like my mom: a good manager under adverse conditions, but perhaps not the right person to keep you from getting into those adverse conditions in the first place.

Kirk. Just...no.

So, Sisko would get my vote.

Kirk. He's not the "cowboy" some people think he is. He surrounds himself with top advisers and listens to their advice. He knows when to talk and when to use the big stick.

Season 4 Archer.

If Enterprise continued I bet Archer would have been one of the first presidents of the Federation.

Sisko wasn't good as a diplomat. He'd make a good general.

Picard.

Sisko would lie to the people if it is in his interest. I don't trust him.

Picard.

Why? Because he is diplomatic, is willing to respect other points of view, and has the cool accent.

Sisko.

Picard is disqualified for failing in I, Borg. He had in his hands a weapon that could destroy his peoples' most lethal enemy... and he didn't.

Picard could NEVER EVER become US President. I'm not sure what would have to happen for US voters to accept a French guy with a British accent as their leader :D

I was going to vote Picard, but then I remembered Archer became president of the Federation. If he's good enough for the UFP, he's good enough for me.

Actually, no, Sisko would not lie if it was in his best interests. He would lie if it was in his country's best interests. Whenever Sisko compromised his morality in DS9, he never did it for himself -- he always, always did it for the Federation.

But we don't know any details of his term. What if he turned out to be the James Buchanan or Warren G. Harding of the early UFP? ;)

Or George W. Bush? ;)

The choice is clear!
