Which Starship Captain would make a good U.S. President?

I guess in light of this year's election, this question has to be asked. I personally think Sisko would be the best. He has administrative experience having run DS9. Plus, he has better diplomatic skills having to deal with a variety of diverse cultures and ideas, as opposed to running a starship with like-minded individuals. And, I know that it irks most "Roddenberry's Dream" crowd, but as evidenced in In The Pale Moonlight, Sisko is willing to make the hard choices to get the job done. But who do you think would be the best for Chief Executive of the good ol' U.S. of A.?

The Sisko. ;)

Picard. He was great at diplomatic efforts, forging alliances and fighting back when necessary. He gave great speeches and he inspired confidence in those he commanded.

^Nope. A President needs diplomacy skills. That right there disqualifies both Archer and Kirk.

Count my vote for Sisko.

The Sisko.

Picard's an old granny. You need a POTUS who in theory would push the button.

Janeway is too erratic.

Could you imagine Kirk giving the State of the Union? All the...halting...speech patterns would drive people nuts. And Archer would start rambling about gazelles.

None of them.

In fact, the only scifi character I would want as president would be John Sheridan, from Babylon 5.

Didn't Mace Windu attempt to extrajudicially assassinate the legal head of his own government? I'm all for dropping JDAMS on the bad guys, but geez, marching into his office with a posse and a laser sword is a bit much. Not exactly presidential.

Regarding Trek captains, I too cast my vote for the Sisko. He was right in the middle of one of those "clash of civilizations" wars that come with globalization. He can interact not only with galactic powers but also developing, fervently religious nations. (Okay, so he had the slight benefit of being their Emissary.) He was a competent administrator with a generally hands-off approach and respected the cultures of those under him.

The Picard.

He knows when to delegate and when to take control, make hard decisions, forge alliances, fight back when necessary, make sacrifices, point out the errors of his own peers and/or friends and punish those who broke the law. He knew when to back down and when to stand and fight.

He ran a ship of over 1000 people, contacted many different species, inspired those he commanded and gained the admiration of others.

He is well read, cultured and educated. A gentleman.

Most importantly, he can build a consensus, see the point of view of others, and even both sides of warring parties. All in all as perfect a President as possible (IMO there is NO Perfect President).

Captain Kirk was an okay president until Lee Harvey Oswald, the Cubans, the CIA, the Klingons, the Romulans and the Mob (Bela Oxmyx working with JoJo Krako) killed him in 1963.

Picard is French and is automatically disqualified by the constitution. Out of the remaining candidates, I think that Sisko would be the best choice to run the country effectively. Janeway would be a horrible choice. Her decision making skills are too erratic.

Since this is hypothetical I'll disregard the French issue. Otherwise if I were to approach this realistically, I'd have a problem voting for anyone claiming to be a starship captain. That being said, Picard hands down.

I would say Picard as president, Sisko at defense Archer at state and Kirk as chairman of the joint Chiefs of course given modern-day politics were hypocrites are mostly get elected I think Janeway would win

Hmmm, it's a definate toss-up between Sisko and Picard - they both have such good qualities.

Picard's a born diplomat, but Sisko's no slouch when it comes to that either.
Sisko's definately got the bulls to stand-up to other powers and for what he believes in, but Picard has shown he's just as capable at kicking ass when he needs to.

In the end I think I'm going to have to go for Picard, but only because I could see Sisko pandering to the Bajoran religious right a bit too much. :D

Of course I'm not even American, and don't get a say anyhow, but whatever, I picked a Frenchmen anyway. :D

Picard.

Because he speaks with an English accent, thus having him controlling America would simply be restoring America to its proper status.
