Which Species Was Underused in DS9?

Let me add the Son'a. There seemed to be a hint that there was some type of alliance or something between the Dominion and the Son'a post-Insurrection. I wish DS9 had picked up that thread.

I thought this question was going to be based on a species we saw in the show. Because we didn't see the Andorians or Tellerites, they shouldn't count. As for who should count, I say either the Tzenkethi or the Breen. The Tzenkethi seemed like an important race in the series, yet I don't think we ever saw one. As for the Breen, what is under those helmets and why can't the universal translator pick up what they say.

I voted Oriion (and I always thought Oriion was spelled with one "i"??); anywhoo, my reasoning goes back to TOS. Kirk witnesses the slave girl (Marta?) dying outside the safety of the shelter. We learn a little more about them in TNG -- they're the 'criminal syndicate' of the 24th century. And there DS9 is on the very edge of UFP territory and there's virtually *no* criminal activity out there?? Just one or two episodes would have made me a happy camper.

tomalak301 - we never saw the Andorians, Tellarites, or Tzenkethi. The three were only mentioned in dialogue. So what makes the Tzenkethi applicable? ;)

estrea - yep, one 'i' for Orion.

That is true, but the fact that it goes back to Sisko's past, as well as featured in an entire episode might have helped. I just don't really understand the whole thing about a species being underused when they weren't even in the series very much. I mean that logic would probably gerner responses of The Borg being underused in DS9, even though they weren't really important to the overall storyline. In fact, I would say the species that was truely underused in terms of how I understand the question would be the Romulans. I mean we only got to Romulus once during the entire series.

Andorians, certainly. One of the Federation's founding member planets, and yet we never see them and hear little about them during the Dominion war.

I don't know. The Cardassians pretty much played the same role as the Romulans on the show, and there were eventually some standout episodes about the Romulans. Not to mention, like the Vulcans, their fair coverage on the other series as well. I'm still going with the Tosk and the Hunters because I could really see a plot in there (and it'd help to emphasize that the Dominion have more than three species.)

I voted Orion (isn't Orion spelled with one "i" like the constellation?); anyhoo, my reasoning is that they go back to TOS where Kirk witnesses the slave girl (Marta?) die outside the evironmental center, we learn in TNG they're the "crime syndicate of the 24th century" then *poof* they're gone again. Along comes DS9, on the fringes of UFP territory, and your gonna tell me there's no criminal activity??? I would have been a happy camper with just one or two episodes, not a complete story arc.
