Which season would you choose to end Dexter with? **SPOILERS**

If you had a choice between ending Dexter with Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, or Season 4, which would you choose and why?

I'm torn between Season 2 and Season 3. Season 2 ended on a high note with Doakes' explosive farewell, Lila's death, Dexter and Rita's reunion, and Dexter deciding to make the Code his own instead of something passed on by Harry. But Season 3 had Dexter and Rita's wedding, the emotional scene between Dexter and Harry in which they heal their strained relationship, Dexter's showdown with the Skinner, and Deb coming very close to the truth of Dexter's past.

Season 4 or whatever the highest number is. More Dexter is better than less Dexter.

It's had ups and downs since the near-perfect first season ended, but I wouldn't want any less than what we have now. Season five looks like it could be a proper way to end the series, though.

^^Completely agreed. They've never quite topped S1, but S4 came Very close. The new season looks to be the first one that directly follows on the last season's events (other than the very early season 2 stuff with Dex and Deb,) so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Aside from a somewhat lackluster season 3 (IMO), I am very happy with everything we've gotten so far. However, I do feel like time is running out. Season 5 may be the best time to wrap everything up. Deb's inching closer to discovering Dexter's past and I think that she'll figure things out soon enough.

I think the producers recognize that S3 was a misstep. They could have settled into that level and kept going for several seasons but instead they've chosen the gutsier and shorter route. They have at most two seasons left in the story, but those will be two awesome seasons!
