I chose season 2 because, in my opinion, the show had found it's footing and produced several memorable episodes, such as "Amok Time", "Mirror, Mirror", "The Doomsday Machine", "Journey to Babel", "The Trouble with Tribbles" and "A piece of the Action".

Maybe I should've said, "Better non-use of soundstage planets."

I like the Desilu backlot and missed seeing it in later episodes.

Definitely season 1. It was the most fully adult season, the one where ST was more about science fiction than about "itself", its own internal history. It also had a very Twilight Zone quality, I think.

The compromises for a mass audience started creeping in, in season 2. They leaned very heavily on the other-Earths budget strategy... and actual uninspired or bad ones started appearing. Triskelion was s2, remember.
