After what happened in STXI, it is only logical to focus on the Vulcans and their efforts to rebuild.

Though Humans are a good choice, too. That race has been very underdeveloped in Trek. We know so little about what their society really is like!

The race of Hynemans, and the legacy of the stranded and exiled former leader that crashed on the Earth around 2002

The Vulcan effort to rebuild should be included. Perhaps, after help from Earth, they will soften their racist attitudes.

I wonder if that effort would include reaching out to the Romulans, their closest living relatives. One race the survivors of the destruction of their home world; the other race the second chance after the future destruction of their home world. But let’s not remake Unification.

They should fight an alliance of Cylons, Daleks, Reavers, Terminators, Decepticons, Visitors, Aliens, Predators, Replicants, Pod people, Goa’uld, Godzilla, Ming the Merciless, Doctor Doom, Lex Luthor, Professor Moriarty, Professor Chaos, Wile E. Coyote, Joe Arpaio, Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, the Los Angeles Lakers, IP lawyers, and the kitchen sink.

I think we have a winner.

As in, they'd win. There's no way in hell NuKirk can tackle that.

I would love to see Vulcans rebuild their world. And there would be probably enough of this. I would also love to see Andorians. They haven't been featured enough in Star Trek, and I think that the mistake that there were too little Andorians in TOS should be fixed. Could they get involved in the Vulcan troubles somehow?

The Klingons would be nice, too. I like to see hate for Klingons we see in The Undiscovered Country growing. I wasn't satisfied with what was shown in TOS and ENT to support it.

Romulans too, but only if they make them more interesting in some way. I always felt that they were featured enough in TNG without showing anything more interesting. A better remake of “Balance of Terror” with more drama would be damn cool, but I'd rather see something new. On the other hand I want to see something like a sequel of the Romulan interference arc in Enterprise. With good CGI. And there weren't enough Romulans in TOS.

I would love to see the Xindi again, but unfortunately I don't see how they could be focused in the story.

I'd like a film based around the Edoans/Trexians. Time to bring back Mr Arex!

As for the Xindi, just having a Reptillian redshirt or Xindi-Sloth in a Starfleet uniform in the background for a second on the Enterprise would be all thats needed to show that Earth and the Xindi have buried the hatchet. It would be a neat easter egg for Enterprise fans that wouldn't take up a single line of dialogue.

Same for the Suliban.

It's really unlikely, though, since the makeup people are more interested in coming up with their own creations for background aliens (which are admittely very cool).

The rebuilding of Vulcan society has to feature in the next film.

If they do not restore the previous timeline, exploring the effects of the altered timeline would be interesting.

I'm hoping for the Organians or some group like them -- sentient balls of light that are way smarter than us! (I just was watching Errand of Mercy.)

:rommie:

Well they already have their "Cylons" in the Borg (who have Reaverish qualities as well). I have no objection to an early introduction of the Borg, with the stipulation that they have to be nearly invincible and assimilation is permanent - NO EXCEPTIONS! - so that the Borg will be taken seriously and not turned into jokes.

To really drive home how serious the Borg are, I'd let them permanently assimilate one of the main cast - the more major the character, the bigger the punch. McCoy would be the most chilling option; Chekov would be a good second choice. Might be funny to see Simon Pegg trying to play a Borg, so Scotty is my option #3.

And no Borg Queen with personal opinions or obsessions; the uniform and impersonal quality of the Borg is one of their creepiest traits.

Of your other ideas, I like:

Replicants - If Data-like beings were introduced in the 23rd C, but for some reason not given equal treatment in the Federation, this could be a viable foe-type character. However, why wouldn't the oh-so-enlightened Federation treat them as equals?

Goa'uld - This is basically the Trill gone bad, with the ability to use any humanoid species as a host (and maybe they can anyway, they just don't). But why would the Trill go bad? Ahah! Mirror Universe Trill!
If they do not restore the previous timeline, exploring the effects of the altered timeline would be interesting.
They don't need to restore the Prime timeline; it exists, we're just not seeing it for the time being. We won't be returning to that for a while, but I'll bet someday, a future group of writers will find an excuse to go check it out and see how things are going with Vulcan but no Romulus rather than the reverse.

Those time traveling space-nazi aliens.
Oh yeah, love those guys! :rommie:

Romulans too, but only if they make them more interesting in some way. I always felt that they were featured enough in TNG without showing anything more interesting.
Poor Rommies, after all this time they've barely been developed beyond the generic-baddie level. The obvious hook for them is how they have a society without using logic to channel those dysfunctionally strong emotions of theirs. They must have something else - is that the function of their paranoia and xenophobia?

It's unlikely we'll return to the Rommies in the next flick, but someday I hope someone will finally address this longstanding oversight.
