^With that visual acuity index of 99.6 she'd probably excel at table tennis, as Paris remarks (he actually mentions ping-pong, whether that is exactly the same or slightly different is irrelevant here).

I've always regarded water polo as being terribly cruel to the horses.

Nowdays it is better. They use seahorses now.

Wait, water polo isn't just a professional version of Marco Polo? There goes my dreams of Olympic glory.

    Nobody mentioned the obvious:

Spock - Olympic Chess. Probably 3D Chess.

    Sirna Kolrami - Olympic Strategema.

If humans are reasonably average, then many other species will be weak and frail compared to humans. Bynars, for example, look small and weak compared to humans.

By the way, if elephants are ever discovered to be intelligent beings, imagine how much they could outperform humans at the javelin throw, shot put, or tossing the caber. Or purely elephant sports like building tossing.

An if cetaceans are ever discovered to be intelligent beings they will greatly outperform land beings at swimming events.

Actually if they used horses in water polo the horses probably wouldn't mind much since most mammals are natural swimmers.

Deanna Troi is the odds-on favorite at Olympic Chess, since she can somehow defeat one of the most advanced computers of the 24th century.

I thought the idea was to fit them into sports that are currently in the Olympics. If not, we could as well say: Riker: Olympic Parises Squares and Olympic anbo-jyutsu, and so on....

A computer that we know is 'fully functional' and perhaps wanted to take his chances by letting her win.

Riker could barely stand. There's no way he'd be Olympic material.

    ^probably true.

Then again, who of our heroes really would perform at any (near-)Olympic level? Data perhaps, but not many others ....

    Against today's Olympic crop?
    - Kirk (he can beat up Khan and Klingons)
    - Spock (super-strong)
    - young Picard (marathon winner)
    - Data (super-strong, and quick and dexterous)
    - Worf (barely, on strength perhaps)
    - Odo (can turn into Olympic level anything)
    - either Dax (probably recalls Emony's gymnastic skills)
    - Bashir (superhuman)
    - Tuvok (super-strong)
    - Seven of Nine (I think she had enhanced strength?)
    - Kes (give her a week, she'll learn Olympic skills)
    - T'Pol (Vulcan strength, again)
    - Saru (quite the sprinter, and strong)
    - Voq (possibly super-strong as a Klingon)

OK, that's more than I thought. Not that I would agree with everyone though, but there is something to be said for each of them.

On the other hand, with the exception of Picard and Kirk, none of those you mention are 'baseline' humans, so they might all face difficulties in gaining access (some would have more advantages than others, but I'd think Data and Odo would have a pretty hard time getting in on the basis of "fair competition", for example).

About Picard I have my doubts. Yes, he won an Academy marathon in his youth, and I would expect Academy cadets to be in pretty fit shape, but would they be anywhere near Olympic standards? As for Kirk, the greatest danger probably would be in avoiding getting his shirt torn, which probably would disqualify him from any Olympic competition....

If Caitians have a sense of balance anything akin that of terrestrial felines, then M'Ress would be a natural at gymnastics. I can so easily imagine her performing floor exercises, bouncing and flipping like a squirrel on crack. Or possibly the balance beam, striding and somersaulting like it were 3 feet wide instead of just 3 inches.

Arex should be good at all the running sports. He has a leg up on all the competition.
