01 - "I am the LORD your God. You shall have no other gods before Me."
02 - "Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."
03 - "Do not swear falsely by the name of the LORD..."
04 - "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy"
05 - "Honor your father and your mother"
06 - "Do not murder"
07 - "Do not commit adultery."
08 - "Do not steal."
09 - "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"
10 - "Do not covet your neighbor's wife"
The second commandment isn't well-communicated in this thread. I don't think God really cares if you draw a picture of him. (Well, the Muslims might disagree.)
The second commandment is intended to forbid the worship of false idols.
I seem to recall something about coveting thy neighbor's ass.I think there were some other coveting things originally listed that I might get in trouble for, though.
It is true.,Just to be the anal little person I am, the tenth commandment is about not coveting anything that belongs to your neighbor. Not just his wife. It drives me nuts when people leave out the rest of the commandment.
Not really relevant to anything, but I've done the following out of the ten commandments:
I have had other gods before God, I have used various things as idols, I have taken the Lord's name in vain, I have forgotten the Sabbath day, I have not honored my parents, I have murdered, I have committed adultery, I have stolen, I have lied about others, I have coveted my neighbors wife and others things that are my neighbor's.
So yeah, all of 'em.
Well, I've put no other gods before Jehovah, Yahweh or whatever, but I also don't believe in him at all. So I guess I've broken it.01 - "I am the LORD your God. You shall have no other gods before Me."
I used to draw images of the Enterprise when I was younger, so I'll probably go to hell for that.02 - "Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."
You had better believe I've broken that one.03 - "Do not swear falsely by the name of the LORD..."
Which Sabbath day? Different religions use different days, but if you're talking about Sunday then I don't keep it holy. I've always disliked Sundays for some reason.04 - "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy"
I think I've managed to keep this one reasonably well.05 - "Honor your father and your mother"
I'm sure my western greed has probably caused a few people to die by now, but they were poor and probably not Christian, so god's cool on that.06 - "Do not murder"
I've never had the chance.07 - "Do not commit adultery."
Done and done. And I mean done.08 - "Do not steal."
Probably broke this one.09 - "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"
See number 7.10 - "Do not covet your neighbor's wife"
I've been angry with my brother which is the same as murder, and I've lusted after women which is the same as adultery. As for the actual physical acts, those are the two that I have not performed physically.
You might want to elaborate on some of those Michael, unless your just following the old Christian saw that if you've done something in your heart you've done it for real.
I think most people know that, we are just having a bit of fun with the literal meaning. The second commandment isn't well-communicated in this thread. I don't think God really cares if you draw a picture of him. (Well, the Muslims might disagree.)
The second commandment is intended to forbid the worship of false idols.
A more interesting question is to what extent one's behaviour has been influenced by the ten commandments.
