Which of the ten commandments do you follow/have you broken?

According to the reglious nuts we've all broken all of them 12 times each.

The only one I've openly broken is number 5. I loved my mom. Fuck my dad.

01 - "I am the LORD your God. You shall have no other gods before Me."

02 - "Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."

03 - "Do not swear falsely by the name of the LORD..."

04 - "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy"

05 - "Honor your father and your mother"

06 - "Do not murder"

07 - "Do not commit adultery."

08 - "Do not steal."

09 - "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"

10 - "Do not covet your neighbor's wife"

Well I haven't killed anyone yet.

01 - "I am the LORD your God. You shall have no other gods before Me."
Atheist/Jewel Staite Worshiper so I fail that.

02 - "Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."
Drew a picture of Jesus and Batman riding horses once, that probably counts.

03 - "Do not swear falsely by the name of the LORD..."
Ten times already, mainly directed at my cat.

04 - "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy"
I do nothing but sit around the house or go see movies. I don't know where that falls.

05 - "Honor your father and your mother"
Respect should be earned. But I treat my parents with respect because they are decent people.

06 - "Do not murder"
Nothing bigger than bugs and roadkill, I feel bad about the roadkill.

07 - "Do not commit adultery."
Not yet and I hope I don't.

08 - "Do not steal."
Nothing physical at least.

09 - "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"
Not that I'm aware of.

10 - "Do not covet your neighbor's wife (or other stuff)"
My neighbor has a nice tv and I want one like that, that might count. But that's how capitalism works.

The second commandment isn't well-communicated in this thread. I don't think God really cares if you draw a picture of him. (Well, the Muslims might disagree.)

The second commandment is intended to forbid the worship of false idols.

Broke one when I was a kid, and with regularity, #3. Other than that, not broken any others, but at the same time I don't go by them. It's just purely coincidental.

Similarly #10.

01 - "I am the LORD your God. You shall have no other gods before Me."

yep broke this one except when getting home a bit late after a drink then i pray like mad to him that she's asleep.

02 - "Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."

damn broke this one too. at the old yts collage apparently it's called porn.

03 - "Do not swear falsely by the name of the LORD..."

and another one broken God damm it

04 - "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy"

work most sundays

05 - "Honor your father and your mother"

on the fence with this one.

06 - "Do not murder"

yayyy one I've not broken

07 - "Do not commit adultery."

ooh two out of ten so far

08 - "Do not steal."

nuts ok I stole my other halfs heart.

09 - "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"

not broken this one yet

10 - "Do not covet your neighbor's wife"

nope not got caught yet. mind you they've nothing i want anyways.

Just to be the anal little person I am, the tenth commandment is about not coveting anything that belongs to your neighbor. Not just his wife. It drives me nuts when people leave out the rest of the commandment.
It is true.,

Similarly, the second commandment relates only the creation of idols - "You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."

Excluding non-imperative statements, I think I happen to follow:

1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

And do not follow:

4.

Not really relevant to anything, but I've done the following out of the ten commandments:

I have had other gods before God, I have used various things as idols, I have taken the Lord's name in vain, I have forgotten the Sabbath day, I have not honored my parents, I have murdered, I have committed adultery, I have stolen, I have lied about others, I have coveted my neighbors wife and others things that are my neighbor's.

So yeah, all of 'em.

You might want to elaborate on some of those Michael, unless your just following the old Christian saw that if you've done something in your heart you've done it for real.

I am not bound by the 10 commandments because my people were never released from bondage in Egypt. They were worshipping trees in northern Europe at the time.

I haven't broken as many as I'd have thought. I do curse, I definitely do not observe a Sabbath day, and I shoplifted a pair of earrings when I was twelve (although I felt so guilty about it I returned them unworn.

01 - "I am the LORD your God. You shall have no other gods before Me."
Well, I've put no other gods before Jehovah, Yahweh or whatever, but I also don't believe in him at all. So I guess I've broken it.

02 - "Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."
I used to draw images of the Enterprise when I was younger, so I'll probably go to hell for that.

03 - "Do not swear falsely by the name of the LORD..."
You had better believe I've broken that one.

04 - "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy"
Which Sabbath day? Different religions use different days, but if you're talking about Sunday then I don't keep it holy. I've always disliked Sundays for some reason.

05 - "Honor your father and your mother"
I think I've managed to keep this one reasonably well.

06 - "Do not murder"
I'm sure my western greed has probably caused a few people to die by now, but they were poor and probably not Christian, so god's cool on that.

07 - "Do not commit adultery."
I've never had the chance. :(

08 - "Do not steal."
Done and done. And I mean done.

09 - "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"
Probably broke this one.

10 - "Do not covet your neighbor's wife"
See number 7. :)

01 - "I am the LORD your God. You shall have no other gods before Me."
No problem here

02 - "Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."
As stated before this is about making idols to worship so everybody probably passes this one if you are Jewish, Christan agnostic or atheist. no problems here

03 - "Do not swear falsely by the name of the LORD..."
I'd like to point out that God isn't actually God's name it's his title, so the only way to break this one is invoke Yahweh, Jehovah or Jesus Christ. Nobody does the first two and the third isn't a favorite of mine. I'm good here.

04 - "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy"
Depends entirely on what it takes to make it unholy, but since I don't go to church I think I fail.

05 - "Honor your father and your mother"
Let's just say I try to avoid my mom as much as possible. fail

06 - "Do not murder"
pass

07 - "Do not commit adultery."
pass

08 - "Do not steal."
I pride myself on my honesty, I'll call this one unbroken for all intents and purposes.

09 - "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"
I also try not to lie, and I know I never say anything untrue about other people. I'm good here

10 - "Do not covet your neighbor's wife (or other stuff)"
Here's another one that's not as strict as people are interpreting it. It's more than "she's hot" or "nice TV". You have to specifically want to possess that specific object. So if you go buy a TV like your neighbors, you are not coveting his TV. You would need to plan to steal his to break this one. The wife issue is similar, you would have to at least think about what it would take to break them up to break the commandment. So I say I pass this one.

8 out of 10 unbroken using my less rigid standards.

I've been angry with my brother which is the same as murder, and I've lusted after women which is the same as adultery. As for the actual physical acts, those are the two that I have not performed physically.

I think most people know that, we are just having a bit of fun with the literal meaning. ;)

This thread made me think about "speaking God's name in vain", I didn't even registered things like "God damnit", "for God's sake", as that. Maybe because in English they are considered quite mild swearing (you'll hear it in movies, tv programs, etc), while in Italian swearing involving God's name (bestemmie, "blasphemies") is considered extremely offensive, because the literal meaning is much more violent, e.g. join God's name to something considered filthy or disgusting (pig, dog, shit, hangman, etc), or sexual expressions for the Virgin Mary (bitch, slut, faggot, etc). That's serious culture stuff. But don't go around saying that in Italy.

A more interesting question is to what extent one's behaviour has been influenced by the ten commandments.
