If I had had that information sitting in front of me when I made my post, I would have mentioned the source. I'm not the type to wait to go into an online forum until I have all my reference materials stacked around me, ready to go. I honestly feel sorry for the people that are.

It's sort of fun to wing it on the memory banks (to mix a metaphor), and fill in the details (or let others do so) later on.

Go listen to The Force Field from the TMP score and then cast your vote.

Just found this thread, so I realize I'm super late to this party. Anyway, I listened to TMP soundtrack all weekend. It is astoundingly good. Quite possibly the best film soundtrack I've ever heard -- at least one that has wholly original music (2001: A Space Odyssey uses a lot of classical pieces). TMP is definitely my favorite. It's more than just a great film soundtrack, it's a great piece of music in any context.

I wouldn't mind purchasing some of the scores. Where's the best place to get them?

As in all things Trek movie related it has to be ST:TMP. Peerless, flawless, majestic, remarkable I could go on and usually do. :adore:

Amazon actually sells a 2 disc special edition of the TMP soundtrack. First CD is the score and the second looks like little interviews and short commentaries. I'm planning on getting that later this week.

The three disc special edition from La La Land Records is the one to get.

Jerry Goldsmith's TMP score does for Star Trek what John Williams did for Superman:The Movie and Raiders Of The Lost Ark.:techman:

For me, Khan edges out TMP, because it is a perfect fusion of emotional elements in the film itself. So much so, that they tried to ride that wave in the next film with bits of it. TMP, while triumphantly glorious, also perhaps one of the best things about that movie, & arguably Trek's best theme. It's a standalone kind of thing for me. I enjoy it more in the black overture than I do the actual film. There, it's rare I'm even giving it any consideration at all.

Ironically, there are those who will tell you that such is the actual objective of a film score, to add flavor to the moment, but ultimately go unnoticed as well. I disagree when it comes to action & fantasy. There you want the music to be a noticeable part of the ride. imho

La-La Land Records has a wide array of Trek music, including the 3-CD set of TMP.

Intrada stocks many of the albums, and has Treks IV, V, and VI on their label.

Screen Archives is another specialty soundtrack dealer.

I can't vote twice so I'll just say that First Contact and The Undiscovered Country are my two favourite soundtracks...... Just something about them makes me want to listen to them.

    My three favourite soundtracks are:

    1) TMP
    2) TUC
    3) TWOK

But I voted for TUC because I knew it wouldn't get enough love, and TMP was a given.

Goldsmith's TMP is awesome and iconic, and that long before TNG came along and usurped the major theme. As a kid I listened to it all the time. I especially liked how the theme transitioned right into the Klingon Battle.

Eidelman's TUC is darker but still great, fitting very much with the movie.

Horner's TWOK is equally iconic, and probably the most "Trek-like".

Have we not yet learned the danger of the so-called "protest vote"?

If we're talking main score, not soundtrack, I'll go with The Voyage Home. It barely edged out Generations and The Undiscovered Country.

I'm not too keen on The Wrath of Khan and don't see the appeal at all.

If we were talking about soundtrack, I'd go with The Final Frontier.

I'm glad that I'm not the only who noticed that the ending theme from
Bakshi's LOTR and the main/ending theme from ST4 are nearly identical. Never bothered me but the Star Trek 4 soundtrack is not on my repeat listen list.

TWOK is probably my most frequently listened to ST soundtrack from TOS though TSFS is a close second due to "Stealing the Enterprise" and Klingon theme (which was slightly reused in Aliens, another JH score I love). I also enjoy the scores for FC (the theme is simply majestic and inspiring!) and INS a lot too. The Giacchino soundtracks for the reboot Trek don't grab me nearly as much as the "original" movies but I have to say that some pieces such as "Enterprising Young Men", "Nero Sighted", and "That New Car Smell" (ST 2009), "London Calling" (ID) and "Night on the Yorktown" (Beyond) were noteworthy.
