On the physical side, Classic Kirk who battled gods (or near gods), a genetically enhanced tyrant with 5 times the strength of a normal human, a man thought to be immortal (with superior strength), the Gorn captain, Klingons, Romulans, and just about anything else the galaxy could throw at him.
On the captain /"book" side, he took down planet killers, androids, evolved a.i. computers, captians of species more invested in the tactics of war than humans, etc.
Clearly, there's more, but there's no need to go into it: nuKirk is a lightweight compared to the Shatner classic, who defined being a sci-fi badass.
