which issue of Starlog is it?

I keep hearing about a Enterprise Refit with different style nacelles in a issue.

But which issue was it in?

Archive.org/details/starlogmagazine is a good place to look. I thought it was issue 25, in the Mike Minor article, but the nacelles look the same. Probably an earlier issue.

I don't remember that one, but I do remember the one that had the refit Enterprise on the cover that came out prior to ST:TMP. I remember it because the angle they showed the Enterprise at made it look almost as if the nacelle pylons were completely horizontal. Kinda like how the Enterprise D is. It wasn't until I saw the movie in the theater that I realized that the pylons were angled.

Just looked it up, it was issue #25 like Green Shirt mentioned.

Dear Kaiser,
It’s always difficult trying to work out what someone’s half-remembering. What popped into my head from your description was a picture of the 1701-A with “Excelsior” type warp nacelles. The picture is on page 34 of Starlog issue 131:

Whilst I was tracking it down, I came across references to several other fan starship designs featured in the magazine around that time. Although they’re almost certainly not what you’re thinking of, you might find page 35 of issue 133, page 25 of issue 135 and page 29 of issue 144 of interest. I’ve been meaning to try and find Joe Statder’s design in issue 144 ever since I realised Starlog was archived, and so thanks for reminding me to go and do it.
Best wishes,
Timon

Thanks! yep the issue you linked has what i was looking for :)

and later i shall look up those others :)

Thanks again you really saved me some time :)

The Starlog one looks like it has shortened Ingram-class nacelles, as opposed to Excelsior ones.

There's also the Solaris class by Jackill based on another design that appeared in Starlog as a potential replacement for the Enterprise after Search for Spock. Honestly glad they never used it. A little too curvy for me.

I kinda liked it myself. The saucer wasn't quite Excelsior--but looked nice.

Remember the Alaska class battlecruiser with similar nacelles? I liked that one as well.

Not me! The Solaris is like a definition of how NOT to use curves!!

That said, I do like it, but ONLY for her uniqueness!

Yes, the Solaris first appeared in Starlog, IIRC. May have been an advert for that blueprint set. Can't remember, it was so long ago.

 I assume full responsibility!

This is my drawing I sent around back in those days (Richard Arnold didn't like it) advocating / propagating that Paramount Pictures should do something with the Enterprise-A (seen in ST IV-TVH) to create a more believable impression that this is no longer the Enterprise from the previous films.

I had almost forgotten about it, thanks from bringing it back from the abyss of oblivion. :techman:
