Which Is The Best Edition of Strange New Worlds?

Dayton3

Admiral
I bought the first edition of Strange New Worlds. Mainly to get the contest rules so that I could enter myself.

I was unimpressed by it and never bought another edition though some of the covers did interest me.

But I've been interested in reading some Trek short stories, so I'm wondering which is the best edition of the anthologies?

Since "best" is completely subjective, probably the "best" thing to do would be to read the TOC of each volume, and see which one has the most stories involving your favorite Trek series. (Wikipedia, Amazon, Pocket Books, etc.)

Dean Smith tried to keep them balanced, but could only choose from what was submitted, so some volumes may have more from one franchise and less from others.

--Ted (Don't be influenced by the SNW volumes listed in my sig ;))

What the publishing world needs is an iTunes for short stories. For 50 cents, you should be able to download almost any short story. 99 cents for novellas. I had to scrounge long and hard to find Mary McCarthy's "The Man in the Brooks Brothers Shirt" the other day. I gladly would have paid a few quatloos just so save me the time.

Don't they already? Cuz I found Twist of Faith for about 10$ as an ebook today when I was looking for a big image of the cover (thanks to another thread- I think there's a good reason its hard to find big images). So can't other stories also be found for reasonable prices? Might be hard to find the older stuff, and things like SNW since they didn't sell the greatest... but in general...

I've got a 0.99 novellette over at SpecFicWorld, so it's not a practice unheard of. What one would need is some kind of centralized vendor.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Er...well, the ebook version of SNW VII, for example, lists for 11.99. That's .52 cents per story.

The Kindle version is $9.59, making it .42 cents a story. :)

I keep thinking if somebody sold stories by word count, my SNW story (920 words) might be worth .09...

It's not the quantity of words, it's the quality . . .
