Which is better, X-Box 360,or Playstation 3?

My wife wants to buy one for our boys (ages 13 and 11), she asked me which is better. (Like I should know)

The 360 is about $200 right now, and I'm sure PS3 is about the same. So which should we buy for our sons?

Quoting someone from here, the PS3 does everything but melt itself. I have both in my household and I choose the PS3 in every aspect.

The $200 dollar XBox 360 is a "gimped" unit. It has very little (256MB) internal storage, an HDD is almost vital for gameplay, and they charge @100 for a compatible hard drive. So, in the end you should buy the 360 Elite and both systems will cost $299 right out of the box. That said, except for a few exclusives, the same games are on both systems with the exact same graphics.

To differentiate, the Xbox has the better online experience, but you pay for it ($50 a year for the XBox live gold membership). Also, the 360 has no WiFi, so you need to run an ethernet cable to the system or pay an extra $100 for the WiFi adapter. Most gamers do say that Xbox has the better console exclusive games. (Halo, Forza Motorsport, Gears of War, Fable, Etc...). Also, many people may bring up the 360's ridiculously high overall failure rate, but all evidence is that that problem is gone on new units.

The PS3 for your $299 has a Blu-Ray player built in (which may or may not interest you), has free online play, and WiFi right out of the box. Sony's console exclusives are gtting better, with some really great titles out this season (Uncharted...) and some marquee names soon to be released, like God of War and Gran Turismo.

Personally, I think the PS3 is a better deal and wouldn't even consider a 360... but that's nothing more than my opinion. If your boys intend to play online (and you're willing to shell out for the membership fees) they will likely have a much better experience with the 360.

Well what type of games do your kids like?

Neither the 360 or PS3 (or Wii) suck. All the consoles have fantastic games, but they are all different. If you tell us the type of games your sons play we might be able to work out which one they'd probably like the most.

The PS3 is the game console of the future. It uses Blu-ray technology and the XBox is still on DVD tech. It has built in wi-fi and free online play.

With that saud, XBox has about 15 million more consoles sold than PS3, so if they want to play online with thier friends, more than likely, thier friends are on XBox.

I have all three (PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii) and the PS3 sees the most usage by far. Though that includes Blu-Ray movies and Netflix streaming plus it has a pretty good upscaler for DVD's.

Find out what consoles their friends have--hopefully there's a clear majority. That way they'll be able to swap games (making it MUCH easier on your wallet) and play online together if you allow them to do so.

Xbox 360 is better at playing games... PS3 at this point is probably a better value, and is a bit more versatile with the built in wifi, free online gaming, and bluray... why not just ask your kids what they want? Fanboy logic might lead them to resent you if you buy them an Xbox, and PS3 happens to rule while Xbox is gay. Lord knows everyone I knew when I was your kids' age was either a Nintendo, or Sega fanboy... meanwhile my awesome parents spoiled me and my bro with SNES, Genesis, and even TG16 for good measure

Pure from a hardware level I think the ps3 is superior. Failure rates are a lot lower than the 360 and it's nice to be able to charge the controllers without having to worry about batteries. Wi-fi and blu-ray out of the box doesn't hurt either.

But it all comes down to game taste. I think the exclusive game list for the ps3 is better than the xbox360. But for the most part multi platform released games tend to be better on the xbox360 more often than not.

I have all three console and personally I prefer everything on the Xbox, except for the failure rate.

But to be honest at this point it really comes down to personal preference.

I like this idea.

I'd really like an Xbox just to be able to play Halo again. Thinking about getting one next year. For now, absolutely loving the PS3.

I think this is the most important consideration as well. They're both great systems, both with pros and cons...

Another thing you might want to factor in, with a PS3 you and your wife would have access to Blu-Ray DVDs if that's not already something in your household.

Both have strong and bad points.

The PS3 has reliable hardware and a blu-ray player, but had a dismal launch and has only really caught up in exclusive games in the past year.

The 360 tends to be the premier choice for 3rd party developers and XBox Live is a superb service, however the hardware has never been reliable, with a loud fan, basic disc drive and of course the well-known "Red Ring of Death" fault.

Personally, if you can afford it, both consoles are worth having for their exclusive titles.
