Which is better, series or movies?

I do like the way the "prestige" format of TV series on cable and streaming services has fewer episodes in a season. Five or ten episodes or so is less of a commitment than twenty-something.

I've been musing more about what makes me like long series versus movies.

Agents of SHIELD is really the only Marvel property I've had any urge at all to rewatch. The kind of stuff I rewatch, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Breaking Bad, 2000s era NBC comedies, Lost. Whereas Battlestar Galactica I have difficulty rewatching.

The ones I get into and then rewatch are things with ongoing storylines with a combination of serious drama and moments of levity. Without the serial drama you don't get as invested, but without the moments of levity, it's just a dreary trudge to watch it over a long period.

Stuff that's completely dark and serious without any levity works better as a movie, but stuff that's character driven with a good balance of tones works better as series.
