The Kelvin sequence is the best opening of any movie, Trek or otherwise. IMO, it ranks with Spock's death scene as Trek's most memorable moment.

The opening of TREK XI is better than those of any of the STAR WARS movies with the sole exception of the original(Episode IV) and the iconic Star Destroyer/Tantive IV chase over Tatooine.

if you want to bring SW into it too, i'm not the biggest fan of the prequels, but the opening of part-3 (rot-sith) and the battle was a very impressive sequence to me.

most of the actions were rather cheesy, but visually overall it was like nothing we'd ever seen before!

I'll give it that. It was in terms of f/x quality and depth THE most impressive and breathtaking opening for a Lucas movie. But even it pales compared to the Narada/Kelvin battle and the unparalleled music Giacchino pumps into it.

i honestly didnt care for the FX work in most of Trek-XI, the opening scene included.

speaking as a model-junkie: the camera work was way too overdone. half the time you cant tell what you're seeing, or what is happening.

ATTACK OF THE CLONES is the worst of all six live-action SW movies(at least in my eyes).

What could have made it better?

Less wooden romance scenes between Anakin and Padme.
More Boba and Jango Fett.
LENS FLARE!!!

I can understand the thumbs-up for GEN, but I have to pick Trek 2009....

Giacchino's music, adrenaline rush with all the action and hardware....*whew*!

And its one of the few movies where the final 1 hour and 55 minutes live up to the first ten. :techman:

That's completely your opinion. I could disagree more, but not by much.

Well TREK XI isn't perfect. Even as badass as it is in most respects. But with the exception of a couple of totally contrived and boring spots of exposition in the film the movie lives up to most of the hype and while it'll likely NEVER be my favorite film in the franchise by a longshot it has gone a long way towards making Trekkers forget and put behind them the nougated failure that was NEMESIS.

Nemesis was the best of the TNG films.

BEST visual effects for the most part, yes.

Aside from that? HELL, NAW.

But...you're entitled to your opinion. I will respect it.

TMP (Director's Cut).

Less of a need to show scenes revolving around Padme falling for a woman-and-child-killing stuck-up Jedi apprentice?

Hiring real actors who can ACT might have helped the last 3 SW films. Padme and Annie were b-o-r-i-n-g and unconvincing on all levels.

The actors are not bad actors if you have seen them in other things. It just seems like in the PT, between the dialogue and lousy acting direction did everyone in. Hell, even Sam Jackson sucks it up in those movies.
